Happy Holidays from your friends at Pop and Lock Records!

We've got a big bass infusion for you for the season!

Vespers
Put Down The Gun feat MC Vex + Ill-esha Remix

PAL022

After a long break and a period of serious stylistic growth, Andrew Betts aka Vespers returns to Pop and Lock with a wicked 2 tracker backed with a remix from fellow BC beat junkie Ill-esha .

Hard to define and yet so obviously west coast, the original of "Put Down The Gun" grabs the vocal talents of MC Vex, whose quick rhymes and hype roll perfectly over a bass heavy, dubbed out groove. Don't let the mellow keys fool you - this baby has teeth.

Ill-esha is a lady who needs no introduction for bass music fans around the world, but here we go anyway! Multi talented, she churns out amazing originals, does tons of engineering and work for fillms and various media, voice work and more, plus finds time to do wicked remixes like this one. Taking the best elements of the original, she preserves the "tough but moody" vibe and sharpens the knife, creating a version that will work wonderfully in any glitch-hop set. Essential.

"Bubbles in the Jungle" is a much more organic roller - percussive vibes layer over another awesome LFO stuttering basstone - the perfect soundtrack to a forest throwdown and a sure fire dancefloor stomper.

The nine track EP from the Root Sellers came out today on Beatport exclusively. Get it here

The Root Sellers music is the result of a unique and imaginative creative process. Urban artists have long sampled and reinterpreted sounds and songs from earlier sources such as records. This process is often called digging in the crates. Music technology has evolved and it is now possible to record musicians and sounds of all kinds both in the field and in home studios. This allows the Root Sellers to create using a simple philosophy: Dig the Planet. The Root Sellers album was created by traveling around the world with a laptop computer and a digital hand recorder and it includes sounds and atmospheres from the forests of Africa, rolling hills of California, rugged beauty of Nova Scotia and the pristine Yukon as well as instrumental and vocal collaborations from some of the top players and singers they have encountered in their travels.

The Root Sellers musical Journey has recently taken them to major performances at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. They have continued to record people and atmospheres on beaches in Indonesia, rivers in China and the mighty rainforests of British Columbia. Remixes by Myagi, the Utah Saints, Nick Thayer, DZ and Si Begg have been published on Pop and Lock and Westway Records, reached the charts in Mixmag and IDJ magazines, as well as dance floors around the world, bringing international acclaim to the Root Sellers sound.

Sideways Sandwiches
Conscious political glitch hop meets some old-west style bass womps. Freedom Danish and the Root Sellers put a hurt on some filter banks for this 95 bpm dancefloor rinse-out.

Cityscapes
Constructed from sounds and impressions of the city streets and sky trains of Vancouver, Canada, This reflective headphone nodder takes Detroit hip hop through a looking glass of atmospherics, glitches and bass.

A Burning Star
The original Root Sellers jam featuring the vocal stylings of Cleora Star. Conscious funky hip hop, symphonic strings, and a surprise dancehall rhythm come together in an instant classic.

Happy Fingers
Featuring the sounds of blues guitar master Aylie Sparks and his daughter Teka Rae, this twitchy chiller is perfect for a summer morning or your cold Cervesa at dusk.

Twenty Risings
Written on a farm in Humboldt county California, this Sub infused IDM walkabout will take you through gypsy stirngs, Peruvian flutes, and the twenty moons of the Mayan calendar in six and a half rolling minutes.

All the Days of Yesterday
Can Crunk be Emo? Can Bass Music be sensitive? Well it is now. Myagi calls this one saccharine, but believe us, it will turn your stomach at 50 HZ on a big PA. Glide through the breeze and the bird calls of a Yukon summer morning at 87 BPM, while soaring synths and throbbing bass put your feet on the path to beauty.

Two big news items from Myagi's Pop and Lock Records!

Christoph Maitland – Electric Finger out at Beatport NOW!
Run Riot Remix already #2 on this weeks "must hear" breaks chart on beatport!

OUT NOW AT BEATPORT!

One of the most talked about Pop and Lock releases yet!

One of the rising stars of Canada’s dance resurgance, Christoph Maitland pokes the world with his massive “Electric Finger.”

The original’s techy, open-filter stomp peaks out with euphoric hands-in-the-air synth riffs and a breakdown that will work any floor.

Robosapiens – the mad doctors behind Dead Famous records – turn in an awesome techno rework that rolls with funky precussion and builds, builds builds to a killer peak out. Awesome.

Run Riot are a relatively new act with two R’s in their name, which make “Run Riot Remix” really fun to type and say. Their signiature rock elements fuse with the synths of the original to take the track into driving tech-breaks territory, and the result is an awesome peak time rocker that will not dissappoint.

Quadrat Beat are one of the highlight acts to come out of Eastern Europe in the last few years, and this track shows why – awesome punchy drums and treatment of the remix parts results in a tune that stays true to the original but twists it into a b-boy number extraordinaire!

A very special Myagi benefit album for Burning Man Temple 2010 – please support!

Hey hey folks!

This is a bit of a special project that I’d love you to check out and hopefully share to your friends, co-workers or even various nemeses.

It’s been about 2 years since my last proper studio album and about a year and a half since I started my label Pop And Lock, so I figured it was about time to do a new “compilation” of sorts to hold things over until I finish my next album, due out later this year or early next. It’s also for charity! 100% of the proceeds from any donations you make go to Burning Man’s Temple [ ] Man Temple 2010, a massive project that needs your support.

You can download it and donate HERE [ ] Benefit Mix! | Burning Man Temple 2010, and read more about the Temple below!

Notes From Myagi:

San Francisco is a city very dear to me, and has been the site of some of my favourite shows I’ve played in my 6 years of touring or so… The city has a great nightlife scene and is also a hub for the festival / phenomenon Burning Man, a week long celebration of music, art and lifestyle in the desert. The festival is very much a labor of love – I knew this already, but didn’t comprehend the degree to which the word “labor” comes into play until a recent trip to the bay area to do a benefit show with Elite Force, Soul Of Man and Slyde for the 2010 Temple Of Flux, a massive construction and project that involves numerous friends of mine.

You can check out a bit of a “walkthrough” of the Temple as a rendered animation here:

Please check out the album and if you feel inclined (at I hope you do) donate as much as you like / can to help a bunch of VERY talented people do something very special.
