Well hello out there in Internet land! Been a while, hasn't it? I took some time off from posting on all the boards around the Internet as a bit of an experiment, to see how many of my downloads were actually coming from them. The results were actually quite a bit more drastic than I expected, with more of a drop off than I thought.

Okay so that's a lie, I actually just got really lazy. But no more! I'm back, with three new live mixes and a bit of awesome news!

In the interest of keeping this post not gigantic, I'll spare you huge write-ups and giant cover images, and just get right to the good stuff.

And finally, this was supposed to be a tag set between No Left Turn and I. Unfortunately pretty much at the last minute, No Left Turn ended up unable to make it. Instead we worked together on what would be a solo set, except I played it as if we were tagging (three tracks of my choosing, three of either his tracks or other material from K-12, etc, though it didn't entirely work out that way). So while it was a solo set, it was still very much a collaboration, hence the name.

Hey wait.....does that say Kikwear? As in the popular maker of phat pants from the 90s-2000s? Why yes, yes it does! And here comes the news!





I very recently got hooked up with Kikwear and am now representing them as part of their promotional team and as an affiliated DJ. Salut Melo!

How have you been? I haven't talked to you in forever.

Back on November 18th I performed at an event for Mushy Tea Productions called Locally Grown: Magic Mushrooms (a reference to the homegrown talent playing at the event, and the 1up mushrooms from the Mario Games). I was asked to do a two hour set consisting of entirely video game remixes.

This turned out to be harder than I expected. I had to stretch quite a bit. Some of the tracks I wound up playing either just used video game sounds, appeared in a trailer, or just happened to share a name with a video game. I pulled out every single video gamey track I had, and the end result is here.

A little bit before the party I was asked to give up half an hour of my set for a guy who was going to play live chiptunes off of two Gameboys. That is of course, awesome as hell, so I immediately agreed and cut it down to 90 minutes, and set out for the party with my recorder. Unfortunately the actual live recording didn't turn out due to the only open output on the mixer being the booth monitor, and I accidentally cranked the knob, which turned it all into a clippy mess.

So I decided to do the first Sort of Not Really Live Volume I've done in a year and a half. This is the original two hour set that I had planned, not the version that actually got played at the party. I've also added Technikore's Like A Meteor as it's AMAZING, and totally would've got included had it been out at the time. Well it's out now, so I chucked it in there. Woo!

As it's a two hour mix I uploaded two different versions. One is the full length two hour mix in its entirety. The other is the same mix, but split into two one hour halves for people who like to burn CDs. Besides a fade in/fade out right before Take Control's first breakdown, they are exactly the same. The tracklist is split into parts to reflect the split.

While talking with a friend of mine at a party one night, she happend to mention that she's a big fan of the breaks label Cut & Run, and it's offshot Crisp Biscuits. Well as it turns out, so am I! With my tendency to genre hop during my sets, I've amassed pretty decent sized collections of various genres I don't play full sets of. So I figured what the hell, I'll start working through them and doing mixes. I'll do one every so often, as the mood strikes me. I just happened to get it into my head to do a hardstyle mix, so, here you go!

Nothin' fancy here. No really cool tricks or sampling or anything. Just a mix of some hardstyle tracks I like. Honestly, this is more for me than you guys. This way I don't have to go hunting through my music collection whenever I want to listen to some of these. Err here doesn't approve. Fuck him, nobody cares what he thinks.

This week's mix is one I did a few months ago, called "An Introduction To Vocal Hardcore".

This was done as a giveaway CD for Hard Corps, a "rave outreach" program starting up in Toronto that would be setting up booths at various major events to try and attract new people into our scene. Unfortunately, getting things off the ground has taken a little bit longer than expected, and I'm sick of sitting on this mix, so here you go!

This wasn't done as a traditional demo, more of a way to introduce people to as many of the big vocal tunes (and some lesser known ones) of the past ten years or so as possible. Lot of edits, very quick mixing. 40 tracks in 80 minutes to be exact.

It's that time again! This week's mix is Sort of Not Really Live Volume 9: Sakura-Con 2010. Another studio recreation, this time of the set I played at Sakura-Con in Seattle, Wa, which took place from April 2nd to 4th 2010 and is one of the largest Anime conventions in North America.

How large? Well, my best guess on how many people I played for is around 2000 people. The listed capacity of the room was 5000, and it was about half full, but people were giving themselves to dance. So 2000 seemed like a good number. We (Virus, Dynamic, and I) weren't made of aware of just how huge this was going to be until after we'd arrived in Seattle, we all assumed it was going to be a few hundred, like at AnimeNorth here in Toronto. Had I known beforehand I would've planned something a little more intricate than what I wound up playing. However, what I DID end up playing was pretty good (imo), so I recorded it for you guys. Below is a mix of oldschool eurodance, modern commercial dance, and hardcore. Enjoy!

What's crackin' everyone? Welcome to Saiyan's Weekly Mixes! For the next five (or more) weeks, I'll be posting a new mix in this thread every single Friday!

This week is Sort of Not Really Live Volume 8 - Nu Breed - Hadokoa Budokai. This is a studio recreation of my set from an awesome event in Seattle, Washington on March 26th 2010. For this one, I tried to play at least one track from every style of hardcore I own, from oldschool to speedcore. I'm pretty sure I got them all.

Unfortunately, after I recorded it I found out that one of the tracks I played had to be removed as it had been submitted for a compilation album, and it being on this mix could potentially hurt its chances of being chosen. Rather than record the mix over again I just chopped it out, and added something funny in its place, so watch out for that. Anyways, on to the good stuff!

In the interest of not spamming every board I post my mixes on with a new thread every week and probably getting myself banned, I'm going to be creating a single thread this Thursday to post the remainder of the mixes in. That was everything's all neat and tidy and everyone's happy.

The schedule I have worked out looks like this:

Today marks the first day of four weeks of new mixes! This week is Sort of Not Really Live Volume 7: Purple Monkey and Section 8 - Planeteers 2010

For those of you who've never downloaded one of these, this is how it works. Sometimes I play what I feel is a really awesome set, but it wasn't recorded. So I try and re-create the set as best I can in my studio at home. I even try and re-create mistakes, if I remember them. The end result is as close to what a proper live recording would have sounded like, if one existed, as possible.

This volume is my two hour set from Purple Monkey and Section 8 - Planeteers 2010, which took place on February 5th 2010 in Dallas, Texas. With two hours to work with, I wanted to hop genres a little, so this mix combines dubstep, breaks, UK hard house, drum n bass, and then a bunch of different styles of hardcore. It was a great party. I had tons of fun, met all kinds of cool people, all that good stuff.

Because this is a two hour set, and some of you people out there still burn CDs, there are two different ways you can download it. You have your choice of two one hour parts, perfect for burning CDs, or one big two hour long file, for those of you with MP3 players, or who just want to listen at home. The tracklist is split into the individual parts, if you download the full two hour file, obviously there's no split and it continues seemlessly from 2 The Bassline into Shot Me Down. Oh and also, I couldn't remember what I had wound up ending with, and couldn't find that CD, so I threw my closing track from another show I played a few weeks ago that I'm not doing one of these for at the end instead. Enjoy!

I was going to cuss out all you music pirates but I'm laughing so hard at the absurdity of some of you thinking it's okay to steal music and DJ with it that I can barely put this one sentence together.

Y'all crack me up.

On May 22nd-24th Nocturnal Commissions and the Rothko Institute put on an outdoor stage at Toronto's yearly anime convention, Anime North. We had a great setup with the full permission and support of the convention, and at various points had several hundred people (many of whom weren't even ravers) rocking out hard. It was an awesome time, definitely different from your average party, and I hope to be asked back next year. I figured this was a pretty cool thing everyone involved would want to remember, so I recorded as many sets as I could. Here are my two, one recorded Friday May 22nd at 8 pm (we ran til midnight every night but Sunday), and the other from Saturday May 23rd at 7 pm.
