What about... a mix of these two? Wont say more but ill be experimenting @ koi this wednesday. I've saw what Fulgeance's set-up was and it was pretty inspiring. Plain djing with ableton is boring. but looping and layering tracks is something fun to do and the result is something suprising. |

Some producers are just teaming up with djs and have the perfect match, banging originals flawlessly mixed. We gotta get organised ;) |

Why bother doing a live, with all the preparation that it requires if you can bring your laptop and dj? They do have the choice between the two and the promoter too. |

I am just saying that some people, lets say, like Intoccabile, are doing what they have to do, and delivering, without the drama. thats all. Multi-tasking isnt focusing. |

Maybe these djs/producers are actually producing/practicing right now instead of whining over a board and fueling the drama. Juste dememe. |

Could we have a preset to automatically ban from a thread people alleged with drama tendencies? 1 simple click for drama free thread would be off the hook. thank you. |

hahaha! That! quit whinning ppl, when did it stopped you at ANY events. J'veux dire, tu veux pas payer pour la prog, l'alcool, le lieu, ok. Soit juste plus bright. Trouve un festival en ville dans lequel tu peux apporter ton alcool légalement anyways. 40$ for a guy is fair with a good line-up, but not really a bargain, unless I want to get wasted to make it worth. Lets say you are in a bar, 10$ cover charge. 30$ to spend and can be summed up to 5 pints? thats just to break it even. You better be sponsored. heh. |

The difference with the vinyls, is that you can practically be dj for free. And don't say "you couldnt care less about the dj", you are opening wide the door to the prepared playlist played on a ipod. And why going out if you are in for the sound? As a full grown adult with your priorities straighted, you should have a good sound system right or better, flat monitors/phones? You are still in for some kind of "Performance", something to remember the night, as in music is being played? Actually see something that only can be seen and eared, here and now, through gear used on a stage, hardware, effect machines, etc. |

Where you can truly find dub elements in the first releases of digital mystyks/ tempa. and lets just think about the dub electro coming "exclusively"( correct me if I'm wrong) from France, where they won't give up the name the originally picked for the genre. Originally Posted By FLO For example, you said that wobbles is what makes a tune "dubstep"; I disagree with that, since there were no wobbles at all in the first years of dubstep. Moreover there are still many "dubstep" tracks that do not use wobbles at all! Dubstep can be ambient, minimal, reggae, tribal, abstract, uk garage, etc. and never use any wobble. I agree, but then, what IS dubstep? Is it really what we want it to be, individually? I cant stop thinking about that Fulgeance guy who came in march. we were talking about that "lowclub" labeling of his. And as he explained in a interview, he was so sick of trying to label the music he was doing that he just invented a name for his own. that simple. Or that first edIT's track on Certified Air Raid Material when he simply let the album begins when he is asked to explain what kind of music he is doing. |

Isnt the "lingua franca" thing an excuse not to learn the basics in language of a place you are invited in, or worst, living in? A explanation for laziness? Most people of our age in Quebec are talking english, a 2nd and something a 3rd language. It will still mean I'll try my best to learn japanese if I want to go to japan. There is not excuses for laziness. Désolé aussi pour la polution du thread. |

The more I come across discussions among music lovers and musicians, the more often a problem about how to name sound, music genre, arises. Because we have to name, therefore define. Define: origins, influences, roots or artistic approach, etc. The problem with definitions, through words and therefore names, is that it's trying to fix in time (and space?) something ever evolving like music. It has practical uses but never to the musician himself. You don't need to spell out what you are listening to. neither when you are writing, unless you want to reproduce generic music with the same proprieties. From that point, who needs to argue if "that" comes more from "there" than "there"? As music influences people that makes music that influences people that makes music, without ever naming it. But you still need to be able to talk about it, or do we? As an example, the hyped dubstep name doesnt really mean anything anymore, except for the wobbles. And even there, more conservative ppl will disagree over that main element... And that, happily, comes when you have a consensus. That glitch-hop scene has none and its ridiculous how many names there is for that sound. Is it just a dj/melomaniacs/musician issue? Why do I get confused when I see squarepusher in the same section as david guetta labeled under techno @ archambault? I am confused. |
