Navin Rai aka DJ New started getting into electronic music early on in his life through the Prodigy Classic, ‘Experiance’ This album filled him with curiosity for electronic music, which only grew after attending his first party in 1998. By 1999, New had acquired his first pair of turntables. By 2000, he was organizing his own parties at the infamous And Cafe in Halifax. By 2002, he has graced the decks all over Halifax. Now New is known all over the Atlantic Provinces from playing in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. His influnce in his home town is growing due to a radio spots on 97.5 FM, CKDU Halifax. Also, he has been able to showcase his talent to a broader audience over the internet.

New has since varied his musical style. He is able to play either techno or electro sets, sometimes he does a meld of the two. His techno sets are known for their hard, dark, and pounding grooves. He plays techno for the dancefloor, and keeps it focused there, dark and nasty. His electro styles are leaning the same way, towards dark but more of a mechinical feel, with the added diectomy of a human element thrown over. The best way to discribe his show is to just watch it. To quote New, "i like to dance, or make people dance"

On occasion, new enjoys working with other artists from different genres. He has played with bass guitarists, pop and folk singers, live pa artists, and even a digereedoo player. Always willing to try new things, New seeks to differentiate his sets from other peoples. He has incorperated bits of live PA into his own sets on occasion, playing with a drum machine and effect processors. He will of course continue to do things that you wouldnt quite expect in his act.

News past residencys include The Mercury Lounge and Out of this World Entertainment. The Mercury Lounge, a dance bar in downtown Halifax, has had New play on many an occasion, and is sure to have him back soon. Out of this World Entertainment has booked New for practically every event they have thrown since day one. They specilize in promoting raves.

Currently, New is working on a new project, www.electric-atlantic.com. This is the begining stage in a experiment of a label built around no motive but love for the music. In its first stage currently, electric atlantic serves as a place where talented electronic music producers can host their art and show it to the world. On this site, you can see also the art of New, and the many different genres he produces.

"Funky, weirdo music", is the genre that New claims to produce. He has released his first track, "Never" on the Polygon Network label. Working on his first music video, due to be out by December, 2004, New is sure to become a popular artist. Be sure to check him out at first chance
