Which of the two plays a bigger role in your life? Which do you consider to be more important, and why?

reason and emotion ehh?
you guys sound like a bunch of pontificating philosopher queers...

but if I'm gonna weigh in on this i guess I'll say that emotion and reason must be balanced with each, we are genuinely emotional creatures (ie living) yet we strive for reason (thinking/knowledge).

Whats a more interesting question is what relationship reason and faith have to one other.

Ussually I am trying to use reason to control my emotions, but sometimes my emotions lead to better reasoning

i'll answer my own question :)

Until the last few years, I prided myself on reason and mistrusted emotion. As a result I became emotionally cold and distant, especially in my early-mid teen years.

Recently, my perspective has shifted dramatically, and I've come to view reason as nothing more than a social construct. There is no reason independant of values, and values depend on emotional responces. Hence, emotion is the core of being. I've come to idealize pure emotion as the essence of life, and the only thing which has any intrinsic value.

bah... while i agree that emotion is more important than reason i disagree that it si the core of being or the essence of life or that it is the only thin with intrinsic value...

personally, ive always been more emotional, but i always thought about my actions before actualy acting on them... so its really a combination.. but as of late, ive shattered my chains of reason...
id rather live and feel than think about living and feeling

yeah I think Azzizzuzz put it down well for me too....I would normaly react by answering reason but ultimately all that reasoning is to achieve (or should I say, get as close as possible) to happiness....

i agree reason is a construct, but i disagree it is a social one. reason is first and foremost the construct of a civilized mind, created for the very purpose of self-structuring, organization, and abilty to be as objective as possible, looking at different sides of a situation, you get the drift. like a computer for industries, reason is a tool for the mind, to make a myriad tasks otherwise difficult seem like child's play and wonder how is it other stumble in the dark so much.

most of you will disagree i'd bet. think about it a little before dismissing this out of hand, though. relate back to experiences, decisions driven by emotions and reflect. how much easier would you have made it on yourself if you acted with cold analytical rationality? honestly now.

ok, as for the question asked, personally i like to think i keep my emotions within boundaries defined by my reason which is the governing principle between the two. once in a while though, especially if family is concerned, emotions can temporarily take over, but those emotion-driven decisions are always buffered by reason.
