lately i find i've been drinking more often, and 'wanting' to drink basically all the time.. maybe it's just a bout of depression as a result of stress, or just a result of the excessive drinking i've been doing as it is..

but it made me think about how my grandfather was an alcoholic and used to beat my mom when she was a little girl, and i never even met him since my mom basically severed ties with him completely when i was born.. i don't want to turn out like that.. but at the same time, i can't imagine ever giving up alcohol.. or even cutting back at this point...

what are your experiences with alcoholism, any words of advice?

thanks for your help.

Cutting back is more possible then you think. If your drinking 7 days a week then it's time to cut back especially if your getting trashed more then 2 of those. I've also been drinking too much reacently, but I've decided to cut back bigtime, I'm on day 3 of sobriety! I also kinda have to cause I have 2 papers due next week :( and I'm getting really broke :(:(

It depends how often you get trashed, my personal opinion is I think it's fine to drink often but the amount and time it is consumed is a different story.. I don't think someone who drinks 2 beers a day has a problem, but someone who gets trashed 3 days a week might...

Getting drunk alone is ussually considered a warning sign, so if you find yourself often drinking more than generous amounts of alchohol alone often then you might want to look into the problem... If you are hiding how much you drink (like my dad did, an alchoholic) then you might have a problem... If there is alchoholics in your family like you mentioned it can also be a contributing factor...

As for depression, drinking to forget about it leads to a vicious cycle... I have found the following days after a night of drinking can be unnaturally depressing for me, which is one reason I try and keep my drinking in check...

A few tips I might be able to say are, for instance, Unibroue's moto: Drink less, drink better... If you start drinking premium brand beer or wine which is tastier and more expensive you might start drinking slower in order to actually enjoy the liquid! The price will also prevent bad drinking episodes... Also, I would highly suggest cutting out any binge drinking that might be done.. That really is bad for depression... But the best advice is to find what is stressing and depressing you and see how you might be able to confront that problem, and the drinking may happen to lessen as a result...

If your by yourself, doesn't social acceptance become sorta irrelevent? Its not as as though anyone will know, either way. Or at least that's what I tell myself!

I don't see why it would matter... Unless you're drinking a bunch of it straight from the bottle

Hoegaarden is good shit... one of few beers I'll actually tolerate. I've started drinking Brava recently as well. Its made from corn & they even make their own nachos to go along with the beer. For those of you who havent already tried it, I would highly recommend you do so.

hoegaarden is pretty damn good, but there is a lot of beer as good or better... As for corn beer... that sounds kind of weird.. A lot of brewers already use corn as it is cheap, ussually low quality beer uses a lot of corn...

All I have to say is:
Don't knock it 'til you've tried it...

I don't even like beer and I guzzle this shit down like its water.
