lots of great ear damaging sound from the dj booth toward the great half circle of nerds a safe distance away.

A few people even danced...

Snares' set was an hour of epileptic audio which just rocked... I enjoyed all the other sets too, especially the guy who played before snares... david christian I believe... It was surely the breakcore event of the year.

ya, i had fun. twitched like a maniac on too much caffien~
i've been prefering these small interesting electronic shows way more than parties these days. Most of the people actually work for thier music, instead of playing other peoples. *ahem-dj's-coughcough*
i also noticed that alot of the people playing were using Cdj's with effects. simular formula as the Atomic Children~

David Kristian was the only gear-oriented live set... and it was a pretty sick display of headbanging breakbeat abrasion. Too bad it may be the last time he plays a lot of those tracks live.

Black Market and Venetian Snares were both using a cdj set-up + onboard effects for their performances... with impressive results.

As for the dis on djs - in general I think a lot of DJs are lazy - but there are a handful who do some pretty incredible work with other people's records. C64 is one of them - the guy is unquestionably, one of the top drum'n'bass/breakcore DJs on the continent... and when it comes to what I do - I don't so much think of myself as playing other people's records... I think I'm working with them.

Fun night.
Blake sat me in the Merch booth.
I didn't say anything for the rest of the night.

Chris is definitly an amazing juggler. Tight rythmics with good record knowledge makes him play sick shit.

Kristian gave me his last copy of MicroNymph VS MegaNymph EP.Psyched. Can't hear it though.
M. Funk gave me Einstein remixes too. Same deal.

Big up Mike Stinger Productions!
(You don't know these things right?,
emmm no.. it's my first time and shit...)
Precious man. You've got alot learned, and now you've got plenty to do! WooT!

heh, no offense to you personally fishead. i stayed for your set, you definatly made it interesting. it's just that alot of dj's only focus on beat matching.
a turntable CAN be used as an instrument. . . .

yeah the fishhead set was great I'm glad I stayed for it unlike most other people... and the cd-dj w/ fx mayhem is fine by me that's what we have done all the times we played...

A lot of DJs don't even bother with that... they just dance around and wait for a quiet part so they can do a lame fade... the term 'branleur' describes how I feel about a lot of people who spin records... I don't know if there's a good english equivalent.

As for the Excess mix... that one was a lot of fun. Mr. Rogers as a segue to Gay still cracks me up.

yes I believe cross-fading songs and nothing else style dj'ing can just as easily be done by a robot

a) wicked show by Venetian Snares and Fishead, unfortunately was all that I heard... specially loved the intro Fishead, that dark, trippy, dial tone introversion, big up./

b) as a DJ that primarily beat matches and doesn't pretend to be able to scratch and juggle and shit much, i must say that ya, a dj like me ain't a musician so much as a critic.. pickin thru records, playing what i like to, tracks within a similar bpm range... ya it's a mad constricted form of expression and all that, but for me, beat matching is FUN... riding mixes is fun... endless sequences of looping beats rolling into each other is what's it's all about, for me, i don't care if other people like it, think it's art, or whatever, i just like mixing tracks, and that's the reason i'm a DJ -personal enjoyment.

I'm not gonna dis on djs that primarily beatmatch... I can't even express how much respect I've got for guys like Algorithm, Mike Shannon, Adam Marshall... There are lots of different styles and lots of different ways to work it... but there are also a lot of DJs that just throw on a track and sit back and let the track work it for them - and those DJs get the gasface.
