 Coolness: 63455 | Woha, well 4 words sum up my weekend: esti, colisse, tabernac, sacrement..
Woke up at 9am friday, had to go in to school to write a test.. probably failed it. don't care.. had some a&w in the caf with ben and discussed how this was gonna be the longest day of my life haha.. wasn't expecting to sleep any time before my 8am set.. so i went home, and packed up my crappy old backpack with 50 records.. this is a lot heavier than i expected.. headed down to one unity to meet up with patrick who was gonna give me a lift since he was also playing the party.. got there at 3:10pm, and we check out the c.s.r. record that's been sitting in one unity for a few months now.. he decides to grab it and close his set with an interrupt vector track.. rayaz looks at us like we're crazy.. jungle dj's just don't understand we have to swing by gatineau to pick up dominique who used to live in quebec city and wants to go back for this party and to meet up with her friends there.. she doesn't speak any english, and my french is really rusty, so communicating with her is basically a waste of time.. haha.. we hit the road, and patrick entertains me with insane stories from his 20 year dj'ing career.. haha.. i'm thinking, no wonder he still does it.. and i am subjected to the 4 french swear words above several hundred times haha.. patrick is a friggin hillarious guy.. dominique sits in the back all quiet because we're talkin in english.. we stop for some "McDo's" as they call it in quebec.. for some reason the food was better than it is at ontario mcdick's.. they even had poutine.. i swear i don't remember poutine at ontario ones.. and my big mac had way more stuff on it.. i also noticed they say "trio" instead of "combo".. but luckily they understood my order hah.. get to quebec city at 9 or so, and go straight to the venue.. giant bingo hall, already a line-up forming outside.. go inside, see that they have the room split into 2 with curtains.. get a little worried at this point, since the curtains didn't look very thick. anticipated major sound bleeding.. they just had 4 stacks on each corner of both rooms.. but nice stage setup, lots of decorations.. the second room only had pots for lights, but the hardcore room had a bunch of roto-zoomers or whatever they are called. not the typical rotating mirror scanners we get here.. these had the entire light fixture on a spherical rotating arm.. it was really cool. they had couches all over the place as well.. and even.. MATRESSES haha.. i'm thinking, how stereo-typical media impression of the rave scene is this.. but still, seemd like a cool idea to me.. have a nap when you get tired.. hah. room starts filling up shortly after 10, and as the music starts, the bleeding becomes obvious.. it's ok if you are in the middle of the floor surrounded by the speaker stacks, but behind the speakers, or next to the curtain, you would just hear a mish mash of the two rooms.. so most of the night was pretty good.. neophyte showed up 30 minutes late, but he brought danny and jarno with him, since they were all doing a live p.a. at scream in montreal the same night.. knew that 2 gigs in one night separated by a 2 and a half hour drive was gonna be a major problem.. jeroen gets on the decks and played some awesome classics and un-released material on cd's.. danny and jarno signed autographs, drank oasis orange juice (probably mixed hahah), and took neophyte family home movies of the crowd hehe.. then they leave 30 minutes early! jeroen only spun for 1 hour, instead of the 2 they paid him for.. hrmm.. nonetheless everyone loved it, and the party continued at full steam.. i'm guessing at this point there was around 800 people there.. never asked what the door count was, but both rooms were reasonably full. only clear spaces were next to the curtain, and next to the washrooms haha.. the couches and matresses were of course packed all night too hehe.. all the other dj's in the hardcore room were really tight.. especially thor, volkano, and merku.. my first time hearing iznogood, and he was insane.. mixed lots of french speedcore, with old dance tunes and various other stuff. it was evil, and they loved it there.. coffee man (our chauffeur/comedian) played some great newstyle and some of his own tunes on cd.. he's got mad producing talent.)... spent most of the night in the hardcore room.. ran into a few people i met at friday the 13th.. posed for a picture with the girl who called me a god last time i was in town, haha.. and i still don't know what her name is. i feel like i should just 'know' it though.. like the real god? hhaah.. the only place where you could really talk to people was in the bathroom, and every time i was in there someone would try to talk to me with their extremely fast and thick french.. i felt really bad because i only undertsood half of the people i talked to.. then they would try to say it in english, and i still wouln't understand because they don't speak much english there.. so it was kind of isolating haha.. but still, everyone was really nice.. met a few people who spoke good english and talked to them a lot.. one guy requested that i play shaftman from nasenbluten, but didn't bring that one along.. gah.. they would love track over there.. i hate realizing i forgot tunes.. i was gonna bring xtc, you got what i need but i forgot that too.. the same guy told me last time i was there, people didn't really like the britney spears remix i played. haha.. i've heard this before, but i think it's a hillarious track.. they are making fun of her if anything. it's even called "killing" and has a SICK kick drum. i figure they just hate britney spears, and don't expect to hear that at a rave my set rolls around at 8am (ahh!! i've been up for 23 hours!).. had some orange juice and a caffeine pill just to be safe get on decks, and am overwelmed at how much the other room is bleeding through.. i can clearly hear the beat of the boring trance while i'm trying to beatmatch 180 bpms haha.. but i adjust, crank up the monitors.. then they start cutting out, haha.. turn it down.. then the needles start to skip on 'bad dreams remix' and i notice they have stanton 500's on the decks.. EWW! this is why so many dj's bring their own carts to a big gig.. gonna do that next time the one on the left deck was really shot too, since it skipped like mad on waxweazle - touching as well.. hardcore room still has 300 people or so at 8 am and they are still going nuts.. dropped probably the cheesiest set ever haha.. lots of remixes, and cheese.. 1st half was mostly happy gabber, then dropped some harder stuff after.. hardcore 2 the bone got them hyped. and mindcrimers remix of twist.. someone asks me to play 'happy is for hobo's' haha, but i forgot that too.. played 'fuck happy' instead.. they liked that haha.. i was able to focus pretty well despite being awake and partying all night in the last 24 hours, heh.. end off with archatos - strength of unity, and that pumps people up.. but during the intro and the break, you can really hear the trance from the other room, so it totally ruined the effect hardcore rooms closes, and i throw a mix cd in the crowd.. some giant guy grabs it though heh.. and someone asks me afterwards if i have any to sell.. i'm not much of a capitalist since i only brought 5 or so and gave them all to other dj's hahah.. next time.. i feel like the cd should be a professionally produced and mastered if i'm charging for it though.. but that would cost too much i guess.. patrick went to his friends house to sleep, and is coming at 11:30 to get us for the trip back, and he told me to tell dominique to be outside at that time, but i can't find her heh.. the trance room still full of people, and the dj's keep going.. not sure who was on the decks, but they were playing some tight hardstyle at this point.. danced just to stay awake hah.. there's still like 400 people at the party at this point.. 10 am! and it stays that way until 11:30 when we leave.. party still pumping, at 11:30 AM!! chat with some people outside, say some goodbye's, and we're off by 12noon. i swear the party is still pumping at this point!! the main room is closed, but people won't leave. we grab some mcdo's again for lunch, get home a few hours later and my 36 hour day ended with me passing out for 14 hours!! and that's all she wrote.. i had a friggin AWESOME time once again.. neophyte was great.. got some dope pictures of him spinning.. i'll have those up in a few days.. quebec city's scene is WICKED. i swear they have parties almost every weekend, 2 after hours, 1 of which is all ages.. the crowd is so friendly too.. mostly really young.. tons of candy ravers, and fun fur happy smiling faces.. people handing out candy.. like in the old days of the ottawa scene hah.. seems like they are really disconnected from other cities scene's though.. they have so many parties in QC they don't need to go to montreal or toronto to see who they want.. they routinely have like 2000 people parties.. and on new years i'm told they can get 5000+.. insanity.. and they have very little jungle or drum and bass there.. some people might think that's the reason behind the thriving scene, because of all the jungle attitudes and stereotypes or whatever.. i'm not really convinced of that myself.. they just love to party all over quebec.. and they are really open minded.. it reminds me a lot of what europe must be like.. it's a cultural thing.. whatever it is, i love that city and the girls are amazing they were pretty much all beautiful!! i have to practice picking up girls non-verbally haha.. because i'll just end up insulting them with my sloppy french.. but i practiced my french a lot this time, so on the trip home i talked some french with the 2 francophones in the car haha.. love the swear words.. they are all religion based, wheras english swearing is all dick and fart material.. hahaha.. pics up soon. |

So don't expect too much fromm people who do two party in a night in two different town.They're just humans! |
