i just picked up this book at the Dawson library. Basically, it's the story of uber-club-owner Peter Gatien and his most important club in NYC, The Limelight.

I'm only on chapter 2, but so far it's great and just the PROLOGUE is fascinating as it explains the origins of ketamine in club/party culture - very informative stuff!!

How far back does the use of K go to? Is it pre-1984?

Hmmmm. There goes that idea... :P (First reference I've found so far is William Gibson's book, Neuromancer, which was published in 1984)

the coolest thing about the prologue is that they explain how Ketamine was used as a general anesctetic (sp?) as early as the 1940's... it was more practical tghan others becuase it didn't require the patients bladder and stomach to be emptied.

the author said how K was used for pretty much all field medical operations in World War2. can you imagine being really fucked up on K (we're talking high doses here) in the middle of a fucking WAR!

it's bad enough K holeing on a couch surrounded by friends. :)

apparently ketamine is still used as an anesthetic on humans in certain cases, together with a tranquilizer so the patient doesnt remember the trip
