LOS ANGELES [ ] - The original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" introduced a generation of moviegoers to actor Gene Wilder who played the quirky lead character. He was kind and gentle with the Oompa Loompas, yet manic about his fizzy lifting drinks.

The adaptation of the Roald Dahl children's book was directed by Mel Stuart in 1971 at the suggestion of his daughter. She loved the book so much that she decided her father should bring it to the screen.

The story takes place in a dreary nondescript town in Great Britain. An eccentric candy maker opens his factory to five lucky children who all find golden tickets in a Wonka bar. Little do they know, the child who shuns Mr. Slugworth will be rewarded with the factory.

Tim Burton ("Nightmare Before Christmas," "Beetlejuice") is poised to direct his own version of the classic. Danny Elfman is set to score. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" begins filming next year in and around London; however, a lead actor has yet to be announced.

Naturally, fans of the original are very opinionated about who could fill Wilder's shoes. Some adamantly oppose a remake at all.

Early reports speculate that it is a horse race between three actors: Johnny Depp, Michael Keaton, and Christopher Walken. All have worked with Burton on previous projects.

Who do you think should star in Tim Burton's upcoming remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?"

Actually, Tim Burton's already talked to people about this. He was interested in doing this 2 years ago, but he was going to do it on the one condition that Marilyn Manson would play Willy Wonka. Since he wasn't available at the time, he passed up the rights to the movie and someone else has them now.

I dunno man, see, Willy Wonke is supised to be friendly but creepy at the same time. He;s suposed to have energy and be jumping and bouncing around like a kid who's eaten too much candy. If they DO go through with it, I'm hoping they take the original idea that Tim Burton had and to cast Marilyn Manson in the role, because compared to all the others, he's the only person that can look the part of creepy and friendly, he's got the right build, and he's young enough to have the right energy for the part.

And in other news, Batman 5 is no longer being directed by Arnofsky, and it's going to begin filming after marilyn manson's next tour, because he will be playing the villain...

It's got to be Scarecrow.
