coffee shops decided club for local market

Nieuwsbericht | 27-05-2011

the cabinet takes measures to push back nuisance and drug tourism. The access to coffee shops is linked to clubpas and comes maximum to the number of members. Members must be of age and inhabitant of the Netherlands.

Coffee shops are this way decided clubs for the local market. The council of ministers has agreed, on proposal of minister Schippers (Health, Welfare and Sport) and minister Opstelten (VenJ).

Suspension open door policy coffee shops

wants the cabinet that the current open door policy of the coffee shops is concluded and that combating organised (drugs) crime is intensified.

That to reach, the cabinet takes the following measures:
* Only residents of the Netherlands obtain to coffee shops. This happens on vertoon of valid identity papers and on the basis of membership.

* The membership is granted in the form of clubpas, on vertoon of a valid identification document and a proof that the applicant inhabitant of the Netherlands is. A membership is contracted for at least 1 year.

* The cabinet maximeert the number of members of the coffee shop. Maximum at a later moment it is determined. The burgomaster can stipulate a lower maximum member number depending on the local circumstances by coffee shop.

* Residents of the Netherlands do not obtain to the coffee shops. The cabinet signs Maastricht at this decision to that the outcome of the lawsuit at the Council of State between the municipality and a coffee shop holder concerning the resident criterion is waited.

* The visibility of coffee shops for schoolboys for to reduce, increased the cabinet the distance between schools and coffee shops to 350 meters. Thereby the real distance applies, at foot concerning public gone.

The measures are gradually introduced.

The cabinet expects that the fence of coffee shops makes it for foreign drug tourists no longer attractive to the Netherlands to come for cannabis. Possible side effects of the measures are watched sharply and are tackled police force, judicial authorities and governing board.

Increase sentence requirements

further will raise the Public Prosecution Service the sentence requirements for the professions and commercial cultivation of (and trade in) hemp and the production of (and trade in) large quantities of soft drugs.

Suppression drug crime

the cabinet will strongly intensify combating organised (drugs) crime:

* The number of criminal organisations that is tackled, is doubled of 20% to 40%.

* The treatment also aims at the underlying structures which these facilitate forms of organised crime.
* The cabinet invests the coming years strongly extra in decreasing criminal capacity.

it might pass, it might not...

it will suck if it does...

the dutch economy is just under 1 trillion, if 10% comes from tourism we can say half are 'narco' tourists, that's 50 billion dollars, they are really going to give that up?

we'll see i guess,

i haven't been in years...
I'm feeling surly right now..
