I'm looking for someone whom is knowledgeable with turntables and mixers etc.
to come over once a week and teach me until I've figured it out.
1.you must have your own equipment
2. be able to transport that equipment ( preferably hiring someone with a car)

This position pays 15$/hr (perhaps more, depending on how qualified you are)

msg me if your interested.

thanks

I've though of it, but I rather hire someone whom really knows what their doing and I'm not to comfortable bringing a friend into this, it's not very professional.
It's also a great opportunity for a local djs to make some extra money, no harm no foul.

Eyh Ashley, Pete Anima has his own Dj School, highly regarded.

I don't think he goes to your place but he would definetly teach you a lot.

Have a look here:

Learning on your own is probably best Ashley. Have you thought about investing in some turntables/serato/cdj?

big up this girl for wanting to learn the dark art...

just figure out what you wanna do in terms of the style of music you wanna play (play what you like, play the music you wanna dance to) and also in terms of your gear (cds are gay in my opinion but wtv floats your boat), like someone said maybe get your own set up

then your on your way, maybe buy ten lessons off of someone and do them over the next few months.

I remember the first mix i ever did! It was super basic just two instrumental hip hop tracks, but i was so proud of myself! I didn't touch my dex pitch controls for a week for fear of losing it and never being able to do it again...

good luck to you.
I'm feeling surly right now..

I would say the same. I learned by myself, you even have books for that with everything you need to know. Cuz when you know the basics, it's only Practice that will make you better. The more time you pass on it, faster you'll learn.

2004 Canadian DMC Champion + 2009 Juno winner
learn mixing and scratching - beginner and advanced techniques - lessons in English and French

drop him a line from the contact page if you're interested...

btw- I don't know how many DJs you'll find that are willing to lug their gear to your place to give you lessons...
I'm feeling new records right now..

another dmc champ who can shoehorn his lessons to match your level and style.

but like fishhead said... there aren't many dj's willing to move their gear around and you'll probably be better off carting yourself around than having someone else lug 2000$$ worth of gear.
and if your going the route of proper lessons, it's probably in your best interest to start thinking about getting some gear for yourself because after you take a lesson your probably gunna want to practice what you've learned before your next lesson.
I'm feeling republican right now..

My friend Anima started a DJ school, [ www.djschoolmontreal.ca ]

have a look on his site, it's something unique here in Montréal... whatever the style you want to mix, he will be a great teacher...

As much as it sounds like an interesting idea, I'd like to learn more about it before I start considering going any further. I figured that after a lesson or so, I'd make a decision.
Therefor buying the equipment right away would be to much of a commitment for me at the moment.

Genre: club/house

I appreciate the suggestions, you guys know your shit haha. Thanks :D

ps. still looking for someone to show me the way around da turntables!
