Hah, seems we have common fb friends.
Obviously, heh :)
But yeah, not bad. Just not so much a fan of long-winded aetheric metaphors, unfortunately all too common in the discourse ;)
I'm feeling fully circled right now..

The TAZ is the basis for the Canadian version of Teknivals. Hakim Bey's books were a big inspiration on the Freetekno collective in Toronto, and they eventually read up on the Tekni scene in Europe, and wanted to emulate it. A lot of the old pamphlets from our events quoted Bey to give people an idea of where we differed from other parties.
I'm feeling like a bag of dicks right now..

can someone point me to a good article about the roots of the freetekno parties? was it in france? what was considered the first of these parties? i really want to read up on this... because even though i'm not a fan of the music they play, i really love the concept, ideas and culture.

edit: actually, the wiki article is pretty interesting :) [ en.wikipedia.org ]

it should also be noted that Hakim Bey has written articles for NAMBLA publications (as I recall, this was mostly under his given name: Peter Lamborn Wilson)... there's a fair amount of creepy imagery in the TAZ book, especially if you take that history into account.

I read it years ago. Before it was officially published several chapters were circulated as part of the newsletter that Thee Temple of Psychick Youth put together in the early 90s... the idea of poetic terrorism is interesting, but on the whole, the book is a pretty problematic work.
I'm feeling new records right now..
