Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here has good knowledge on samples layering, especially for percussions (Kick drum, snare, etc).

I understand the basic and how it works, but I'm looking for more practical advices, like what tools you use, your usual routine, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help!
I'm feeling good right now..

What do you want to achieve exactly? I don't fully get what you're asking...

Sample multiple Kick Drum samples together to acheive a better sounding Kick drum.

Let's say I like the low-end (100hz and below) of one of my kick, and like the upper end of another kick.
How do you proceed on layering each other to have a better sounding kick, combining the best of both?

I tried working with EQ, but with limited success up to now.

databoy, care to explain a bit more about phase aligned? What do you mean ?

Thanks for any help.

Could also apply that to a snare, hat, etc.

you might have better luck with filters than just EQs.. even though they're essentially the same thing that just works a different way..
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

When you look at a wave in any modern DAW, you'll see that half of the wave is above the line and half is below. The top half is the positive phase the bottom is negative. When you place 2 kick drum samples one on top of the other, you have to make sure that the waves are somewhat paralleled or "in phase". If you where to move one of the samples just a bit so the waves where opposite each other, the both samples would then absorb each other, or rather cancel each other out. They would then be "out of phase". Its a phenomenon that is quite easy to hear.

But if you're really serious about kicks, I'd look into this if I where you: [ www.synthtopia.com ]
