Dubstep Scene?

So, I've been living in Montreal for only a few months and I've never been to any dubstep event, but a lot of people tell me they're not really worth it. they all say there is something weird with the vibe. a friend of mine, who I met in psytrance events, said: I really like dubsteb, but I never go to dubstep nights because the vibe is just not as good. apparently people are bitchy or mean or god knows what...
so, what do you think is wrong with that scene if you've been to dubstep nights and think the vibe is not cool?
and if you think it is cool, why do you think it's as cool as the others and why do you think people say that?
i'm not talking about the appreciation or not of the music but really of the vibe of the parties...
thanks ;)
I'm feeling loss of magic :( right now..

Nothing wrong with the dubstep scene.
It's just that well, it's not overpopulated with hippies, and the average age is well above 17.

Hope that helps.
I'm feeling blood thirsty right now..

If you start comparing vibes between psy and dubstep events, obviously they're going to be very different. Like Carlbaz said, don't rely on hearsay, just go see for yourself. The worse that could happen is that it's boring and you've managed to loose a couple of dollars in the process.

check out Bass Drive Wednesdays @ Belmont and/or Forward Music Thursdays @ Passeport. They're bar nights, but it'll give you a good idea for less cash than a big party. If you have a good time, then a party shouldn't be any different. There may be a lot of kids that aren't used to raving or whatever at the bigger events, so the vibe isn't all 'symbiotic karma' shit, but i doubt it's all that bad. Not everyone behaves themselves at parties anyway ;)

like they say, there's only one way to find out!

experience: one of the many keys to knowledge.

^ i don't think thieving is reserved to dubstep. maybe it's the generation, maybe it's that dubsteppers are more careless with their stuff, maybe it's 'cause those kids actually have stuff worth stealing ..

stuff gets stolen at alot parties in general.

besides, i'm pretty sure Jesse was 'pre-dubstep era', so ... :P

I find the Dubstep scene to be a lot of teenagers smoking a shit-ton of pot and discovering ketamine in my experiences with dubstep. A lot of suburban kids too. I hate living in the West Island due to the teen-steppers. I just made up a word!

I do like dubstep though, I can count how many songs I've been told are good, on one hand :)

the music is cool but the scene is ruined now

I'm a ex-waste islander :p grew up there, always went to psy events ;) The Waste is a great place to grow up, it's teenage central, it was a blast growing up, downtown pple usually hated us (they could spot us a mile away, lol)

I've noticed that the dub rooms are usually filled with young preppy kids, didn't see many (older) adults, perhaps the bar nights are different?

I like dubstep, do a lot of homework listening to the stuff, we (montreal) have a great podcast!! Just don't dance to it...

Definitely satisfy your curiosity by going to an event!!! no substitution for personal experience!!!
I'm feeling punkadelic right now..

I wanna go, and will go, but I don't know anybody who wants to come with me :( bar night or rave, I'm down. Just wanted to check out what some people had to say about until it actually happens. and I find hearing different opinions interesting ^^
and also, I,ve been mainly to psy events up until now, and I didn't find everything "hippie" and perfect there. as if everybody already knew each other and I tried getting to know some people but they weren't so easy to reach. still don't know many people after a few months. and there were people that acted very badly because they were too fucked on drugs, so I guess this type of behavior isn't related to any particular style
so what "style" of events are more welcoming to newcomers according to you guys?
I'm feeling loss of magic :( right now..
