Au lieu de ralentir, la consommation de méthylphénidate n'a cessé de croître dans la province, depuis le début de 2009. Selon des données obtenues auprès de IMS Health, près de 29 millions de comprimés de médicaments de la famille du Ritalin, surtout prescrits aux enfants souffrant d'un trouble du déficit de l'attention avec hyperactivité (TDAH), ont été distribués au Québec, durant la période de 12 mois qui a pris fin le 31 octobre dernier. Cela représente un bond de trois millions de comprimés en seulement un an. Même si le Québec compte moins du quart de la population canadienne, on y a distribué 43% des prescriptions de Ritalin et 34% des pilules. Dans les deux cas, ces données sont en hausse constante. À l'inverse, ces proportions ne cessent de diminuer chez nos voisins ontariens, depuis deux ans. Étiquetés trop rapidement Le psychothérapeute et docteur en neurosciences Joël Monzée s'est inquiété publiquement du phénomène à plusieurs reprises, depuis le début de 2009. L'expert n'est pas surpris de constater que la consommation de méthylphénidate atteint désormais de nouveaux sommets. «Ça reflète toute la dynamique scolaire et médicale par rapport aux difficultés des enfants», analyse-t-il. À son avis, les enfants qui «sortent de la norme» sont étiquetés trop rapidement, dans les écoles du Québec. «Dès qu'un enfant sort de la norme, c'est considéré pathologique, déplore l'expert. S'il y a une médication qui peut être associée à ce trouble, la machine se met en marche.» Joël Monzée fait valoir que «la solution des médicaments» est «la plus facile». Il estime que bien des parents sont «contraints» d'accepter que leurs enfants soient médicamentés, sous la pression des profs et des médecins qui, eux, sont débordés. «Qu'est-ce qu'on fait maintenant ?» Le professeur Gérald Boutin, de l'UQAM, est tout aussi préoccupé par le phénomène. «On le sait qu'il y a un problème. Qu'est-ce qu'on fait maintenant?», demande ce spécialiste de la formation des enseignants. M. Boutin estime lui aussi que le médicament est vu par plusieurs profs comme «une solution magique.» Mais il s'agit là d'une «erreur assez grave», selon lui. «On pourrait aller vers des choses plus simples, des thérapies plus souples», estime-t-il. Au contraire de ces deux experts, plusieurs médecins et psychiatres jugent que la consommation de méthylphénidate est souhaitable pour bien des enfants. Elle permet, selon eux, d'améliorer leur concentration à l'école et leur estime personnelle. Ces spécialistes font valoir qu'à l'extérieur du Québec, les médecins ont tendance à prescrire d'autres types de médicaments que le méthylphénidate aux enfants souffrant d'un TDAH, ce qui aurait une influence sur les données. ritalin sucks, grown up people use it to get high and parent gives it to their children to be better? i don't know, sounds wierd a doctor once told my mother that I was hyperactive and that i needed some she told him to go fuck himself and that's one reason why i love her! |

In elementary and high school, I was brilliant and had some awesome marks. But I was never listening and it was going too fast in my head. In CEGEP, my motivtion went down and my marks too. And it was running too fast in my head. I went to see a doctor and she determined that I was hyperactive, but not that much since i had high marks when I was younger. So ritalin was the "solution". I started university, without Ritalin, in a program that I love and I wasn't able to listen in class. Even if I was motivated, I wasn't able to concentrate. Result : Ritalin, the smallest dose. and it works. I'm taking it only 3 days a week and I'm not a zombie but I have just enough concentration to have high marks. |

...unfortunatley most parents don't want to put up with "hyperactive" kids.. the same parents who think letting their kid sit infront of the TV for 7-8 hours a day is a good way to keep them occupied.. |

i can tell this one have been modified, but i was sure the "joke" was kind of similar from the one in the comic books? Calvin doing is homework and hobbes asking to go play, and it finish that hobbes was only a tiger plush instead of a real tiger, like in Calvin Imagination. Im going to check it out again. might be wrong though, Internet these days, it's messing with my head!!
