i had a dream once , it was about the sequel to akira ( refer to the manga that would be amazing )

then i woke up, and felth somthing was missing in my life , and at the same time thinking how depressed i would feel if i would miss seeing a sequel made by katsuhiro otomo

I want to read it. I hear it's better than the anime if that's even possible...

The anime is only about half of the story.. The live-action Akira movie isn't going to be a remake of the anime, but a two-part movie that's the whole manga's story.. So if anything, despite the location/name changes, the live Akira is going to be more accurate than the anime!

^^I'd honestly recomend tracking down the original VHS version and not getting the DVD; they re-did the voices, and you'd think it's something really not noticable, but some of the words/sentences are a little different (not just how they sound) and it really doesn't feel like the same movie..

i agree there the first translation was better. (english from jap)

and reading the comics first will probably ruin the movie depending on how you see things,

i read the 2nd manga first , then i saw the movie , then i read it all. best way to do it, you

can sample a little , but dont look at trailers , not a good idea.

they remade the entire manga on hard cover, (like "dargau"'s print house when they compile asterix and that shit) so your better off getting them , you wont end up having to buy 52-53 comics that
have risen out of price , i was lucky back then because i worked in a comic store and was almost
the only one to buy them . ( departing them was a shoot in the foot ) but i got blessed with the repress.

and nothing is missing in thoses compilation, except all the covers of each of them. and book
52 or 53 or was it 56 ?! or something (around 50... ) had only pictures , again avail in the last compilation.

I bought the Genon/Pionner version, and yes, it pretty much ruined the experience for me. But a friend of mine who had never seen the movie before didn't mind whatsoever. It was a completely new experience for him, so he took it for what it was.

On the other hand, I think you can still get the original dialogue if you buy the Akira Special Edition box set.

on a side note , reading akira was one of the most memorable thing in my life ,

i was at the hospital at the time , and had my mom going to my library for me since i knew they had the
hardcover there. she brought back the maximum i could borrow , it got me out of the crazyest dark age of my life... they are strong moments in there that will get your hart pump for more. unless im just too pasionnate for nothing , the detais of the images were very compelling and i could stare at some pictures for hours analysing the action while at the same time wanting to read more. tru masterpiece. even when youll be done reading youll want a go at it again , each and every time.

this is why i thing having them (hardcopy) is a good thing , its the original medium first, and second ill
unless you drop out of the story , you wont regret investing in it. one of the rare pieces i think should be invested in.

it far from not mindless dragon ball, ottomo really deserves his dought.

wow so i just read [ en.wikipedia.org ]

Akira is currently being developed by Warner Bros. and Appian Way Productions into two live-action films. Ruairi Robinson is set to direct in his feature film debut (having been nominated for an Oscar in 2002 for the short Fifty Percent Grey), with Gary Whitta writing the script and Andrew Lazar, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jennifer Davisson as producers. No announcement has been made regarding the cast.[18]

This just in: In June, 2009, it was reported that Ruairi Robinson had left the project and the film was "Dead as a doornail".
