I know Windows 7 is gonna have built-in multi-touch tech similar to this, all you'll need is a screen that supports it..
(the Windows 7 official beta came out this week, fuckin' amaaaazing, if I could get my ethernet card to work under it I'd be using it as my main OS without a second though)
just mine, my computer is a little over 9 years old :P There isn't even Vista support for my motherboard, I'm surprised that everything but the network card works no problem using the old drivers..
Windows 7 is absolutely amazing though.. On my computer it runs faster and smoother than a fresh install of XP!
man I'd love to have some augmented reality goggles.. like some transparent LCDs that can get info via wifi as to what adds or info should show up on the pannels.. or like give people floating name-tags like in MMOs :P

haha totally! The possibilities for the tech are incredible, it just needs to be implemented and mass-produced! I really wish we had cyberpunk-level tech right now.. it would be so fucking cool.

or to start of a little simpler, do it with a system of red LEDs similar to how the Virtual Boy was..

of course some work would have to be done on the programming side of things depending on what kind of feature we want! tracking is really hard especially with low quality fast moving video but still it could start as some kind of interface for information and then when the tracking is good enough it can be used ! what would also be cool would be the use of gps! so like 2 person could be doing a tag game while having their opponent running has 3d character ! but imagine this you would have an arrow showing you in what direction the other guy is! i dunno that would be fucking crazy running around the city in multiple level mall or small parts of town!
anyways a lot of work could be done and once these device are on the massmarket fucking cool game will emerge ! imagine playing the tag game on rollerblade or skateboard bmx etc! or even car(that could get dangerous tho)

A combo of the glasses/cam with a GPS like TomTom.. some face-recognition and OCR text recognition..
I really wish I had the knowledge/skills to do it all and put a project like that together.
All this talk about augmented reality and bionic lenses is giving me the urge to watch ghost in the shell.
To me, the system they use in that show probably the best example of what this technology could be used for. Just the idea of having a wireless, hands free, video conference call, all through a contact lens gets me wet.

With how small things are getting, I can't wait untill there's stuff like datajacks where you just plug your brain into your computer and get info fed to you directly at the speed of thought.. Or memory/skill chips, where you can just plug in something the size of a MicroSD card into your head and know a language or a skill/trade, like plumbing or shit like that..
no need for job training anymore; come into work, get the chip put into your head and you know the whole inventory system and procedures as if you've been doing your job for 50 years..
