Ok, first and foremost. I like the mix, I like the tunes, great job.
As I witness the evolution of Dubstep into the more squelchy and digital, cuz you know i've been listening to this shit since back in the day and you can't take a dad out of the sub and all that, n'a mean mate? Scottish bagpipe music. Seriously. Same "evolution" happened to jungle. A dub based mutation turned into what we now know as drum & bass. This time around since the tempo is so slow, all I can think to myself is that the south of london sound is heading north to scotland; towards bagpipe soundscapes. Something is suspect with "neurofunking" the sound for me. I'm still into it, but I don't think I will follow this trend to the bitter end if it keeps going in this direction, i.e. what happened to drum & bass.

yeah, I sortof see what you mean..
I kinda prefer the opposite.. As much as I like the really dubby-influenced stuff, I tend to find it more.. I dunno, boring. We've heard all these basslines and bass sounds before in Dub.. I really like the neurofunk-influenced dubstep the most (like the first tune in this mix, or the rest of the High Rankin' dubstep stuff I've heard).. Out of everything though, the jump-up dubstep is really starting to get on my nerves.. I love Rusko - Cockney Thug, but everything else in that vein just... well it reminds me of the only type of drum and bass that I really can't stand. Cockney Thug and Where's My Money remix are pretty much the extent of the DnB nu-jumpup influenced dubstep I can listen to without wanting to tear my ears out.

You make some good points. History doesn't look to kindly on jumpstep (jumpup? i forget what the hell that stuff was called, classic tunes in context though. haha) in the d&b scene, for example. And there's probably a lot of Dub that would be worth getting back into, but they aren't posted as mixes here, or anywhere else I score tunes. My entire music collection for the last 3 years is mix-sets. Oh, and people sending me their own tunes. So... someone post a DUB mix? And PM me with the link so I don't miss it? Anyway, it just feels like history repeating itself. I liked drum & bass from start to finish (and continue to do so) but I don't know how long I can carry the Dubstep torch if it mutates into bagpipes.

yeah.. And like, it's not ALL jump-up that's bad.. Like, I fuckin' LOVE Aphrodite stuff.. But I swear if anyone plays some Clipz, some TC, Twisted Individual, Generation Dub.. Man just get me a fucking shotgun...
I've actually got a mix I did as a joke of all the jump-up I can't stand that I haven't uploaded yet.. I called it The Burberry Mix.. It's just a perfect example of everything that's wrong with drum and bass.

You have the dumbest shit ever combined with the most experimental music ever. I embrace the whole pile. The thicker, the better. :)

I agree with Conner_bw 100% with Dubstep taking some weird twists of late.. I have a god awfull RMX of the beatles "Look at all the lovelly people" that I think I might have to break into a million pieces. There are still great records comming out like Headhunters new album and Skreamizm 5. I just picked up a few really deep records from LD and Tes la rok which give me loads of hope for the future.
Nice mix MR skrew |

Oddly enough, my favorite track on this mix isn't even a dubstep one, it's Count ft. Sinden - Industry.. I fuckin' love the vocals!
for dubstep, though, right now I think my favorites would have to be King Cannibal and High Rankin... Just absolutely sick stuff, and they're really just taking all the elements I love of DnB and slowing them down. Update » Screwhead wrote on Fri Dec 12, 2008 @ 9:05am Also, holy fuck, Mistabishi dubstep tune is fucking SICK
