Is there anyone else out there that's never been able to correctly burn a DVD for use on a home
system. Oh they burn, but can I ever achieve one that won't skip or glitch or travel scenes or
jam up at all? Every single one I watch gets about 30% through and starts fucking up. I've tried
all DVD types, -R and +R, all the different encoding settings and burning speeds. It's not the quality
of the DVD either, I'm burning AVI DVD rips that are fine quality with no problems, I use VSO which
seems to be the preferred choice among PC users these days, so what am I doing wrong?

Can anyone help?

Don't do anything with your computer while burning, proccesing stuff or accesing the hard drive could cause "blanks" while burning, which will fuck up your data. Stop all programs, don't download, don't even listen to music, and try burning at a slower speed. Most home DVD players can only properly read something burned at 4x or lower, so don't burn at 8x or 16x, that's only for data.
I'm feeling airconditioned bliss right now..

I copied like 300 DVD on DL Ritada [DVD9] using DVDShrink
and burning at 16x, took me like 10 mins to encode and
5 mins to burn with a LITE-ON LH-20A1H Burner and they
all play super-fine with the menus and all no glitch,
100% fine on my Panasonic RV-32 =)

Get DL DVD-R, means no compression for 90% of the DVD-films
outhere so means no fuck ups.

DVDShrink with Nero Burning Rom works fine.

oh and if u need to encode DIFFERENT .avi MPEG-4 files
into MPEG-2 files, my previous message was for DVD-film
to DVD-R copy, ALWAYS USE THE SAME SETTINGS FOR ALL YOUR
FILES, if u d'ont then it will fuck up.

I recommand using TMPGEnc to encode in MPEG-2
and there's tons of guides here [ www.videohelp.com ]

Wow, pretty useless comment right there.

Now Host, I've never used VSO myself (I'm lazy so I burn .isos), but I know that converting .avis to VOB files (or whatever VSO ends up giving you) is pretty harsh on a system. This may sound pretty basic, but regardless of your computer specs, are you making sure to NOT run any other apps while it's converting?

Heh, my DVD writer's a 3-4 yo HP dvd630, and I've never had any problems burning VOB files. I'm guessing the problem lies during conversion.

And yeah, you're just gonna mess up your PS2 lens faster if you listen to DVDs on it :)

I tell you your problem is all on your PS2 part, that's the cheapest, unreliable
DVD player, specially for SCPH-00001-03... But if u say it's fairly new, maybe
they upgraded their DVD-Player Program, well they must have been with all the
different versions outthere [ www.ps2cover.com ]

Like the XBOX for exemple have a so much better DVD player then the PS2...
Just get a NORMAL DVD PLAYER, thats meant to read ONLY DVD, not a videogame
console, like a Pioneer, Panasonic, Malata, Daewoo, Philips, Samsung...

I remember @ the PS2 launch date, I think it was in 1999, just got one
of the SCPH-00001 series for like 500.00$ with a 3 years waranty and
blah blah blah...while my friend got the same very fuckin day a brand
new Pioneer DVD player for 500.00$. When the PS2 launched they were
very few DVD home system players on the market and the first games
were on CD-ROMs. We argued quite a bite wether for 500 bucks it's better
to have a 128-bits super graphics engine videogame system with vibrating
controler and blah blah blah that could ALSO play DVD-Videos Discs
or having a Super High Quality DVD Player from one of the first company
that started making DVD Player and very well know for cd player and
other electronics [Pioneer]. 8 years laters, I can honestly say my friend
was right about one thing, his DVD-Player still work and he have tons
of awesome fonctions that you will never see on a PS2, and this PS2 was
returned to Future-Crotte 2 weeks after I bought it bcuz DVDs were playing
fine until half of the moving and skipping till the end, everyfuckin one
of them. Got another one with the same problem, and another one, then
chipped one, and then it died, it's been dead for almost 2 years I think :(

Know what Alex ?

I was having the EXACT same problem as you mentioned. I have Nero, burning everything right and not changing settings extensively and, regardless of recoding AVIs or *NOT*, I've had numerous DVDs that would have mosaic, skip entire scenes, freeze or just generally refuse to play beyond a certain number of scenes. Then I'd switch from my DVD player to my PS2 as well and I'd get a totally different set of fuck-ups for the same movie.

Then it occured to me.

I had bought a spindle of sort of no-name-ish DVD. I decided to buy and try a few Maxell DVD-R+, just for the hell of it.

Guess what ? Problem solved. Haven't had ONE screwed up DVD yet. Not one. If so, it was my fault ( doing all sorts of retarded stuff like Screwhead said. Note : do NOT burn a DVD and a joint at the same time. If so, go play some PS2 or another console and leave your computer alone ).

I found out that cheap DVDs have that cheap silver coating which has a hard time being etched properly by your DVD burner's laser, resulting in " bad sectors " and is the equivalent of burning a corrupted file to DVD.

Good DVDs have better silver coating and respond a helluva lot better to being engraved.

It made a WORLD of a difference for me, you might wanna try that. Just buy a few really good DVDs and try them.

If it works, you won't have to change your DVD burner, get a new prog to burn, etc... Hope this helps.

some old versions of nero when you use an invalid / pirated serial number it accepts it and will fuck up your cds on purpose... i don't think the new versions did that.

verbatim are the best cds on the market (they are the ones with the cd patent)

i'm not sure about dvds...

Wow. My reading skills are as good and accurate as your currently burned DVDs.

In other words : contains large quantities of FAIL.

my friend always told me the best DVDR's on the market are
the Taiyo Yuden's [ www.blankdvdmedia.com ]

I never tried them, but I burned a lot of MAXEL ones and they're
cheap, not as cheap as Memorex but cheapest then the ones I usually
use: Ritek (Ridata) & Verbatim. If you checkout bestbuy & future-crotte
prices weekly u can pretty much get a 100DVD-R Spindle of Verbatims
for 30.00$ each week. Iv'e been buying that lately with packs of Ritek (Ridata)
DL 4x and never had problems, well only one lately but I flashed
the firmware of my burner and working fine now =)
