After the successful Marvel vs Capcom series, a lot of time was spent wondering what the next installment would be. Capcom had already released a tactical RPG with Namco ( [ en.wikipedia.org ] ) and I guess they needed something fresh.

So they went with Tatsunoko. If you're wondering, Tatsunoko is the anime house behind classics like Speed Racer, Gatchaman, Evengelion and Samurai Pizza Cats. Also, the movie Casshern (if you haven't seen it... do so).
