It was made by someone from the netherlands, and the last bit of it talks mostly about what's going on in the netherlands right now, but for the most part, it just goes and shows a few of the many passages from the Quran that pretty much give muslim believers a license to kill everyone that is a non-muslim.

I am rather interested in knowing what you think now, though. If I recall, you'd said before that there was barely anything in the koran about violence, and that it was a religion of peace, but in the video are fairly clear quotes directly from the book outright saying that people who aren't muslim and don't believe in allah should be murdered.

LOL guys. Each of those passages are clearly part of stories of which we haven't been provided in full. In the koran and the bible.. pretty much the entire things are made up of "fables". Someone does something unfavourable in the eyes of god, they are merry and happy and everything goes their way until either they learn their lessons or god has his revenge. What makes you assume all these quotes are those that belonged to god and not the people he was punishing? In some cases it even says "we" and "us".

i actually havn't seen this video so i can't say...

with regards to violence and islam, there are certainly passages of the koran that say things to the effect that muslims are supposed to defend other muslims, even to the point of using incredible violence to do so...

i feel like somehow popular peceptions of 'jihad' have been twisted, 'jihad' literally means 'struggle' but it's not just in the world it's in your mind. The battle is not physical it's within...In some senses every muslim is involved in 'jihad' and struggles so to speak with the internal conflicts involved in being righteous.

as far islam being the religion of peace...perhaps etymology (study of the orgin of words) is the wrong avenue to explore this issue but the root of the word 'islam' is 'salam' in arabic which as every one knows is 'peace' ('salam alhkeim'='peace be upon you'). Muslims do consider there religion to be a religion of peace...the idea of peace in islam is seen to be derived from submitting to the will of allah...man is the most powerful force in the universe after god, he achieves peace by submission to god, by doing so he walks with the power of god rather than against it.

there passages in the koran that promote incredible tolerance and also incredible 'righteous' violence, the book is contradictory, i won't deny that.

just to be clear i don't want to have this discussion if it just descends to level of insults and name calling, if you want to have this discussion you have to be an adult about it and respect other peoples positions as both genuine and authentic, it has to be about deepening and enriching our understanding about these subjects and not just cheap shots and scoring points.
I'm feeling surly right now..

It wasn't banned, it was released, and taken down a day letter due to death threats (that should be enough indication about the power of the extremists to influence people and scare them away from expressing their freedom of speech). Anyway I watched it but it wasn't information I didn't know already.

Geert Wilders is kind of an outrageous right-wing nut, but he also needs constant security because of his views on Islam.

There are plenty of anti-christian movies out there and the creators are not threatened to be killed, and the bible has plenty of violent imagery in it.

The thing is that the koran unlike the bible was not written over many years it is supposed to come directly from god and was dicted by his arcangel. People should stop saying that there are religion of peace.

Religions by definition separate humanity in believers and unbelievers (anyone who does not share the same religion) and wars are always the result of devision or schism between subgroups of humanity. Religion cannot bring peace to mankind because it is before being anything else an agent of division of the US and the THEM, even if some of the message written in the so called holy books might be of peace, religions cannot bring anything but devision, violence and wars.

Maybe I should not but I cannot help but think about the good old joke "My religion is a religion of peace, stop saying otherwise or else I will kill you!!!"

The funny thing is the 'film' really isn't that good, it's mostly recycled footage (that was plagiarized from various sources) from various terrorist attacks. There aren't any real interviews or anything..

BUT, because everyone made such a BIG DEAL about it, because certain people want to take the video down everywhere it goes up, it will spread like wildfire and get way more attention than it could have ever got on its own merits.
I'm feeling gangsta right now..

I don't really understand the logic of this argument, it's like you read my post and thought you had something to say that could contradict it when in fact it still comes down to exactly the same thing. It doesn't matter whether it was handed down from god or not, the fact is it details stories and those stories involve other people than god and it is extremely clear that there are people saying things in these stories besides god even if these stories were told by god. I just quoted you but I certainly didn't say what you said.

Maybe I should not but I cannot help but think about the good old joke "My religion is a religion of peace, stop saying otherwise or else I will kill you!!!"

I don't get how that's a funny joke. I never heard anyone say that and if I did I'd understand completely. The solution is stop saying otherwise, it's not hard, just accept other people's opinions. It's not for you to tell other people what THEY believe in.

Anyways I'm really gay for responding to your post at all.

On another note I'd just like to say I consider this video terrorism in itself. His montage of photos makes me think of brainwashing except it's not even done well enough to brainwash a knewt. The passages on their own like that can have a horrible effect but I don't think it'll do much since most people believe it's a relgiona of violence already and next to the rest of his video well.. it's kind of obvious what the dude wants u to believe. If I went through this board and picked out all of the stupidest and most selfish things that you(whoever is reading this) had written I would not come out with an accurate depiction of you.

Well, i guess you should read and go out a little more, but that okay, I mean being hateful without good reason toward a group of people is still worst than deciding they are good and not seing any issues they have...but not by much.

The guy obviously is picking what he put in that video, but he still chose events that really happen and discarding them like you do is almost pathetic, and if you have never heard of

"Maybe I should not but I cannot help but think about the good old joke "My religion is a religion of peace, stop saying otherwise or else I will kill you!!!" maybe you should ask the family of the people who got killed in the name of these so called religion of peace (pick the one you want) like the people who got killed after the publishing of the caricatures or the one who died in David Koresh religious group or any of your choosing they might change with time.
You might also want to talk with the palestinian who got displaced because another religious group believed the GOD gave them a teritory and that it was theirs by right and that they can do whatever they want to defend it even if it mean killing thousand of palestinians.

And yes it matters if it was given by God or was written by someone else because the word of God is LAW if you are religious even if god is making is point through stories...

And by the way, I am not gay, but what up with the gay bashing, i mean, i might be wrong but

Anyways I'm really gay for responding to your post at all.

ok, i saw this today, i got to say not a great movie,

to the militant atheists on the board i'll be honest, this not one of the better defenses of your position...there are plenty of great defenses of atheism out there this is not one of them...the movies does a dis-service to your position.

this movie is a good example of the stark contrast between education on the one hand and propoganda on the other. This movie is not trying to enlighten you on the nature of islam (be it good or bad) it is straight up trying to make you believe something. The scariest part about this movie is that like most good propoganda it makes use of half truths to make the lies all the stronger.

There are a lot of bad things about this movie i think one of the worst though is the way that it has nothing positive to say at all about islam as a religion. It's also incredibly sensationalist and blows things way out of proportion...it also seems to take terrorist like ayman al-zawari and protays them in such away that it gives the impression that he speaks for them, i can tell you honestly that most muslims (you can test this by asking a muslim especially an egyptian what they think of him) see him as a total nutjob. I can also say that a lot of the verses from the koran are taken completely out of context, if you look them up and read the whole sections that go with them they make more sense. As far as the people holding the sign that say "to hell with freedom" that's actually much more complicated than most people can be said to understand, i don't want to get into it too much but suffice to say when they say that they are against freedom it's freedom as conseptualized and invisioned by George Bush and the american rupublican party, not the philosphical concept as such.

a few more things about this movie you may want to bear in mind, the dude who made it is kind of a closet racist and so is his political party in the netherlands, they are viciously anti imigrant and nationalist in their proposals and take a very firm stance against immigration (if i remember correctly they wanted to be able to opt out of some of the EU charter member stuff concerning allowing the mobility of labour to the netherlands). These guy are very right wing, to the atheists on the board...are these the people you really want to associate your position with?

if you made a movie like this about Judaism you would be considered a Neo Nazis.
I'm feeling surly right now..

Firts of all I was calling my myself gay and as a woman I can't imagine how I would be homophobic. Why are you arguing with people in english if you can't understand it?

I explained to you that just because god is supposed to have written a book it doesn't mean others weren't quoted in that book(it would be pretty fuckign boring stories otherwise wouldn't it????) and you come back to me talking about the word of god again. What don't you understand about this? If you want to use one of the passages as an example please let me know which one and we'll find the rest of the story to go with it. This book is not simply god talking to himself. By saying it is you are not expressing an opinion but a falsehood.

No offense but it's no fun to argue with people who just recycle the same words you've heard from a million people about really obvious things everyone knows. It's laughable that you would even bother participating in this conversation. After you learn english try telling me somthing I don't know. I'm not going to respond to you anymore but you can blabla all you want cause you're as miniscule of a threat as this film.

The rest of us are way past this, your posts are boring and once again I am pathetic for responding to you..
