| Noooo, ravers descend from, like I said, acid teds originally, unless I'm mistaken. That was mid-80s.
Some clubs in England began to really be into House music ( which originated from Chicago ) and decided to throw House oriented nights.
Next thing you know, it became hugely popular ( thanks to the introduction of ecstasy ) and acid house events were born. Victim of its own popularity, they had to move from small venue to larger ones but, obviously at the time, renting a LARGE venue for ONE night wasn't as easy as it sounded so they pretty much raided abandoned factories ( no renting fee ! ) and the concept of raves were moreless born.
A few months later, it became mass hysteria : club kids were wearing shirts with happy faces and dust masks laced with Vicks Vaporub. They were know as " acid teds ". Why ? I have no idea.
It became so popular, tourists touring England saw this and brought the concept back to North America. |
