Ticket For Recycling Boxes

I got a ticket for putting my recycling out on the wrong day and time. The ticket was addressed to me, delivered personally by a mailman and I had to sign for it. It's $166.

The thing is, I don't recycle! There is no way the box was mine. There are 4 other apartments in my building, and I also live on a very busy street so the box must have belonged to someone else.

When I finally got in contact with the woman who issued me the ticket, she said she had a photo of a green recycling box with my name and address on it. She refused to email me the photograph. Instead, I have to plead not guilty and spend a day in court to fight the ticket.

Either this woman is flat out lying to me, or someone went out and wrote my name and address on a recycling box and then left it on the street. Also, who writes their NAME and address on their box? Isn't that unsafe? At most you just write your street number.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm really not looking forward to spending an entire day waiting around at the courthouse for something I definitely did not do. Did she just do this to fill a quota?

Do you think maybe you received a package and someone just stole it and left the box there? cuz i know some mailman are stupid and when you're not there they just put it in front of your appartement door..that happen to me once...So it's the most *logical* explication i think. It would be normal that your full name and adress were on the box.
I'm feeling curly right now..

Ok I called back and now I understand what happened. The lady was being such a fucking cunt to me on the phone and not explaining herself properly. Basically she found an empty box on the street that was addressed to me. So I get a ticket. What a bitch. I even know what box it was, it was the size of a laptop. :(

I'm still contesting it. Hopefully she won't show up in court.

I don't recycle and now I'm glad I don't. I got a ticket for my scooter for parking in between two cars in the reserved zone. Now I take up a whole spot with my scooter because of this. I'm going to fight the ticket also being like it's stupid for me to take up the place of a whole car because I'll get a ticket for parking in between cars... So dumb. Mine was only 42$ though.
I'm feeling nuclear right now..

Glad you dont recycle? Common, don't be that stupid. And i though younger generations where more involved. It takes almost no extra-time and does some good.
I'm feeling booooored right now..

yeah in theory it does!
but the reality is only around 10%
of what we recycle actuallygets
recycled because there are not
enough facilities to actually
contain or transform the stuff!
And the his people dont know
how to recycle 4 shit!
so if u put a sticky pop bottle
in with the others bottles
that you took time to wash
it waists the whole load!
a real fact is even the
plateau & mile-end activists
student types are the worst
when it comes to recycle!
my opinion is that there
should be a massive campaign
to show people how to recycle
well!
I'm feeling l.o.v.e right now..

That's a misconception, do you really think they dont clean the plastic before processing it??? They chop it up to pieces and rince it big time. Would you trust the entire population to clean all of that thouroughly?

And where do you get this 10% bs statistic? I know that alot of people throw ANYTHING in there, I've actually seen a recylcling factory worker on TV showing what he found in the recycling bags and one of the items was a used diaper... People need to learn what can and cannot be recycled. As for the pop can or bottle, it will be cleaned anyways, that doesnt mean I don't rince my shit, but if there's residue it will get cleaned anyways, one bottle ain't gonna "contaminate" teh whole lot.

ya for bottles your right but it will
soil cardbord if plastic and paper
are not seperated!
the 10% is merley a guess but im
sure its not that far from reality
cause ive worked a bit in recycling
to realize theres a problem!
anyway garbage is the future we will
heat our houses wiz garbage fuels!
garbage will be bigger than sugar, oil & opium
all together!

10% is recycled? whut? maybe in 1995 yes, but from an article in La Presse I read few months ago, 85% is recycled, and in Montreal, people recycle about 60% of their waste!
That's far from being nothing.
Common, it's easy to find excuses becauses of laziness, but be responsible a bit at least!
I'm feeling cool right now..

the north american recycling systems are the stupidest shit on earth, no wonder nobody wants to recycle, the japanese (and other asian countries) system is so much smarter, let people throw out whatever the fuck they want, then pay people to go through the garbage once it arrives at the waste processing facility to remove all the items that are capable of being recycled, wash and treat these items accordingly, then take the recycled base materials plastics, papers, and metals and sell them to companies who make items out of these materials, FOR A PROFIT. So much more efficient and effective, nearly 100% recovery rate on some materials like plastics it creates lots of jobs and costs the tax payer almost nothing, as opposed to a north american voluntary system which is expensive for the tax payer creates few jobs and is willfully wastful and ineffective. In recent years it has even been expanded to included biodegradable waste (banana peels, egg shells and chicken bones etc) to make fertilizer.

isn't this a better way of doing things?
I'm feeling surly right now..
