What are good games to own? to rent?

I got a wii and i have no clue what's fun on that console. I have wii sports and wii play, and i plan on getting Guitar Heroes 3 and Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga (i'm a huge lego-tard so good or no good, i'm getting it)

Also, i'll probably never play alone, so i'm looking for cool cooperative or versus multiplayer games.

suggestions?

I really like the Mario Party serie, great game with friend, and good use of the Wiimote. a little redundant if you have played the 7 first one but if not, great party game :)

Big brain academie can be fun too (just to compete with friend about who is the smartest)

Bad you don't play alone because there is some great game for 1 player (metroid, super paper mario, zack and wiki (childish but still fun))

And you will be able to play Mario Galaxy (OMGOMGOMG only 6 days left) at two player, but it's not a real coop mode...
I'm feeling maudit cornet right now..

well, i might rent some games to play alone, but i'd buy only games with high replay, multiplayer value.

I actually played the first 2 lego star wars on pc, and loved it. As i understand, the new one is those 2 in 1 box + some new level, and on the wii, you use the wiimote as a lightsaber!

I think i'll get mario galaxy, just cuz its a mario game. I bought super mario world on the virtual console. I was hoping to buy Uniracer (the best snes game ever) but its not on it. Any know if there is a list of upcomming virtual console games?. I still have 1200 wii points to buy stuff and i dunno what to buy.

i agree that you probably don't want to miss out on zelda; the twilight princess. anyways, even you don't have to play single-player games all by yourself. if you are committed ( aka your brain has been sucked into a technological coma), it takes dedication (hours and hours and days and days). a team effort is beneficial, not just to help you accomplish your adventures, but also so that you always have at least some friends who DON'T wear green tights, a feather cap, and curly shoes.

but most of my friends DO wear green tights, feather caps and curly shoes :(

If you want moohk, come over and we'll finish zelda on team effort! (But unfortunatly, i'd probably just enjoy watching you play it, because zelda-type games are'nt of my liking)

Metroid Prime 3. Don't think, just buy. It's amazing. Although it's not multiplayer.

Play video games and become a better surgeon

A new paper from a team of medical researchers claims that research shows playing video games will help surgeons become more skilled and make fewer mistakes, No this is not April 1 and this is not a hoax.

According to the paper, "The Impact of Video Games on Training Surgeons in the 21st Century", which has appeared in professional medical publication Archives of Surgery this month, anecdotal observations of young surgeons suggest that video game play contributes to performance excellence in laparoscopic surgery.

Therefore the research set out to test the hypotheses that training benefits for surgeons who play video games should be quantifiable and there is a potential link between video game play and laparoscopic surgical skill and suturing.

The research led by Dr James C Rosser from the Department of Surgery, Beth Israel Medical Center, and a team of colleagues tested 33 surgeons including 21 residents and 12 attending physicians with various levels of gaming experience. The results were nothing short of astounding.

Surgeons who had previously played video games more than 3 hours a week had made 37% fewer errors and were 27% faster in completion of surgical procedures than non-gamers, Current video game players made 32% fewer errors and performed 24% faster than their nonplaying colleagues.

The conclusions: Video game skill correlates with laparoscopic surgical skills. Training curricula that include video games may help thin the technical interface between surgeons and screen-mediated applications, such as laparoscopic surgery. Video games may be a practical teaching tool to help train surgeons.

However, before budding young gamers do handsprings and tell parents that playing Monkey Ball 2 will help them become surgeons, it should be noted that a sample size of 33 doctors hardly provides conclusive scientific evidence.

Paper Mario - Very Decent RPG that brings new mechanics to the table... storyline is a little corny though.

Wario Ware - Amazing party game, you got a whallopping 3 seconds win, lose, it doesnt matter, hours of fun.

Metroid Prime 3 - No need to add anything, this game is gold.

Guitar Hero III - Absolutely amazing "Simon-Says" game, a must own if you don't have it on another console.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Yet again Nintendo brings us an epic tale, worth every minute spent playing it.

Mario Strikers - Very good multiplayer game, people who don't like sports games still love this... I mean whats not to love, you shake your controller to tackle and get to shoot 5-6 balls at a time if you can pull it off.

Hope this helps =P

Doh! I forgot Resident Evil IV. It is a port, but an amazing one which uses the wiimote to it's full capacity, definitely a game that is worth buying at such a cheap price (30$ new). Not sure about the replay value though... but I think it's almost cheaper to buy it than to rent it for a week or two to finish the game.

Update: So i played lego star wars, and i was a little disapointed:

The graphics are very sub-par compared to the pc version, i was expecting this, but not to that extent.
The wiimote lightsaber action just blows. There is no relation to how you move the controller and what happens on screen and since there is an alternate button to attack, rather use the button than shake wiimote.

It still is a fun game.

Wii play is alot of fun, the mini games are clever and entertaining. The air-hockey game is awesome.

I'll rent resident evil and see if i like it enough to buy it.

Meh I dunno, I don't feel the controls are too responsive on the air hockey game, I preffer Shooting Cans and Tanks! The one where you flip your mii around is cool too.

The trick with the air hockey is to not be too intense, it's all in the wrist, kinda like the shooting game actually...
Also, you can't 'hit' the puck to any degree, it seems that you can either deflect it or hit it, there's no nuance to how hard you can hit it, which makes it more playable imo
