Horror Movie Recommandations Please !

This one is for all the horror movie " connoisseurs " on [ rave.ca ]
I was disappointed by almost all of the horror flicks I've seen recently. The last one I saw, The Grudge 2, left me sitting in my chair shaking my head in disgust. So I would be most grateful if I could get a few good recommandations... I don't really like gory movies ( I feel some movies are gory just for the sake of being gory ), i.e. texas chainsaw massacre, the end of event horizon, Cube, etc. I like movies that scare the shit out of you with subtle references ( be they biblical, mythical, etc. ), slowly built tension, lighting, clever sound effects, etc. Thanks
I'm feeling party in my pants right now.. |

I can't think of a horror movie at the moment, but one video game that freaked me out: System Shock 2. It's abandonware, so it should be easy to find online.

Watch the original Grudge films (Ju-on). I'm usually pretty stoic while watching horror films, but those films scared the shit out of me.
Seriously, all Korean and Japanese horror films are fucking dope.

damnit I'd typed up a huge list with why you should see all the movies and then accidentaly refreshed the page, so here's what I remember, with much shorter descriptions:
The Changeling (great ghost story) Candyman (little gory, but amazingly well done) Hellraiser 1, 2 and 5(Inferno) - A little on the gory side, but very good stories, especially the first 2. The serries works in pairs of good/bad movies, 1+2 were amazing, 3+4 were shit, 5+6 were good, 7+8 were horrible. The Thing - Reservoir Dogs is an homage to this movie, similar themes going on. First movie that ever scared me to the point of staying awake at night when I was like 12 Prince of Darkness - class of science students get invited to a semi-abandoned church to examine a container of green liquid, which just might be the devil trapped on earth. Cemetary Man/Dellamorte Dellamore - caretaker works at a cemetary where the buried come back to life and have to be killed again 2-3 days after burial. Good little twist at the end, weird and beautifuly filmed movie.
I'm feeling warcracktastic right now.. |

It's the themes of the movie, a group of people isolated from the world, unable to get outside help, and not knowing who to trust because one of them is not what he seems, but no one knows who.
