Check out that vote for the $1 Million voter prize.. what the hell were they thinking?! Awarding a million dollars to a random voter just to get more people to vote?? that's the stupidest fucking idea i've ever seen. Voting should be about preserving democracy, not about winning cash.

I think people should be forced to vote by law in order to gain accurate statistical results... If people don't want to vote they should at least go to the polls and cast an empty ballot or vote "none of the above" on principle cause it makes a very powerful statement.

That would be nice, but too many people would complain and vote for the communist party just out of spite for being forced to vote.

Whatever,... People here are ungrateful that they even have the right to vote to begin with. As I'm sure you're aware there are people overseas in other countries who'd give their lives up so that future generations had the right to vote.

This is why more/better education is needed. The only reason people don't vote is because they don't understand what happens when they don't.

I just don't vote because I don't care. As soon as I get some sort of direct and noticable change in my life from something a politician wants to do, I'd go out and do it. Like, if I lived in the US, I'd go vote just to vote against bush, because we really don't need little hitler-junior starting wars because he feels like it. But untill politics affect me in some noticable way, as far as I'm concerned, I have better things to do with my time than read up on who wants to do what with things that aren't really impacting me directly.

Unfortunately, as you just proved in your statement, apathy is the biggest symptom of 'passive observer syndrome'...

That's no surprise... technically American & World politics affect us more on a macro scale than our own domestic politics...

If you have any interaction with any government services (healthcare, education, roads, water, electricity, post, public transit.. etc), then it does affect you, you just chose not to notice.

If you don't vote because you believe in non of the major parties, vote for a serious small time party, bloc pot, greens, QS. If, for example, the provincial green party would get 7-8% in the next election, it would force whoever wins to do some minimum efforts to put into action ecological politics. Small parties are lobby parties, it's something that the US lacks off.

(ok im member of the Greens so i'm biased, but my point remains good)
