 Coolness: 92285 | Okay, I believe what he's saying about Microsoft trying to obtain my personal information but he does not know anything about what he's talkign about. This guy did little to no research. First of all HKEY_CURRENT_USER is not a psychological profiling function! It's a basic Windows API command used regularly by every single C++ programmer out there to obtain your user settings(in order to customise a programs settings fro your needs). NOT your psychological profile. You can peice together all the computer settings and try form there to obtain a psychological profile of someone but to define these functions as such is absolute bullshit. He could have said what the fucntion really does and then explained from there how it's abused but instead he made outragious statements about it's nature and purpose. These are very useful and often necessary functions. If you are playing a videogame well the game has to know what your graphic capabilities are so it can adjust the image for you or give you an error message instead of crashing your computer. If that's psychological profiling I'm the tooth fairy. Also, his explanation of Cookies is pure hoo-ha. Cookies is not useless, we need cookies. This site uses cookies, all site with users use cookies. It's what allows you to stay logged on to a site(or log off) without having to enter in a username and password on every page. There are some alternatives for minimal things but in general they are not good enough. He over-exaggerates the type of information that cookies contains by telling you what CAN be conclude from it, not what the inforamtion is specifically, the information directly stored in a cookie is much more innocent and practical than that, what someone decides to do with it or derive fom it is another matter. So in conclusion he may be right about his theory(I hardly doubt it) but his long and not-worth-finishing article is full of misconceptions, either he's not qualified to write it or he considers proving his point more important than providing valid information that's not full of holes. As if need AAAALLL this stuff to obtain your personal information, I mean common, as if it's that fuckign hard. This article shoudl have been restricted to the first paragraph. |
