Simple And Cheap Music Producing Prog??

| I was wondering if someone could give me some names of easy to use programs to make your own beats and music. Also, the cheapest it is, the best it is. I've heard that you can not get anything under 150$? Is that true? Also, what is the difference between cubase, fruityloop,soundforge, etc.?
