Hello kdh not being rude here but why'd u mix all those genre's in one set?i mean what u do at the point of changing from dnb-trance or vice versa?cut into a breakdown?its just my opinion but im not for this cross-genre mixing tbh although i dj in both genres theres not many ppl who i know who like dnb and trance but anyways just my opinion
Very good question, and no I don't think you are rude.. Let me try to explain.. Everything I do DJ wise is totally thought out, themes, dreams, progressions and ideas. Anyone can slap some tracks down and have something that sounds decent. But DJing is really the only art form I've ever been good at it. Its my self expression. Everything is always intertwined with me. Everything has hidden meanings. Starting with my Ethereal Planes sets. Start basic. What are the Ethereal Planes? I don't mean to get religious on you so please bear with me.. Its the concept of it that sounds pretty cool to me. The Ethereal Planes are where all the epic battles between heaven and hell have happened. Good vs. Evil fighting all these violent bloody wars, each at odds with each other ripping each other apart. Each fighting for what every one wants....... power and control. The music layout. Disk 1 Angels starts with the heavenly sounds, and ramps up to some hard epic yet thunderous songs all mixed in and ends with a huge crescendo(or the peak of that epic battle) Disk 2 Demons Starts out in a chaotic fashion builds into that epic battle feeling yet again, still maintaining those thunderous hard hitting bass lines.. A good example is Weirdo's Photic Zone. Then it winds down ending with the last track called Evil Angels. Or as the name implies, Demons. The music itself.. Trance VS Drum and Bass.. It doesn't happen that much. Most DJ's don't do this.. Even the groups of people that listen to the 2 usually only listen to one or the other. Even the groups of people are at odds with each other.. This was my petty attempt to break down those walls and bridge the gaps by mixing tracks like SNB's Absolute Red into a mix with Tech Itch's Borg mind. You have to listen to disk 1 to understand disk 2. Both CDs are mixed on a seamless progression. No mixing on the breakdown, as mixing on the break down is for hacks. Each track is mixed based on pitch and tempo. Trust me it, it took me 18 months find the perfect records to put these cds together. So yea, both these mixes were done using 2 tables and a mixer. NO STUDIO EDITING HAS BEEN DONE. Well other then converting to mp3... What does the Ethereal Planes mean to me? It's my own personal struggle. What you hear in the music is my own personal battle with my own angels and demons. The love I have for my friends, family, and the music. The hate I have for my own person addictions, and the things that have happened in my life that I am not proud of. My own personal war with myself. Trying to strike that balance. Onto my Awake Until I Sleep Mix: The back ground: This mix is all drum and bass, on 3 tables. Most of 2003, I was unemployed.. I couldn't find a job. I was broke, almost kicked out of my apartment, my parents were in the middle of a nasty divorce.. almost had to sell my decks, records everything just to eat.. things looked up.. in late 2003 I was offered a really good job and things started to pick up.. Awake Until I Sleep is really part one, part 2 is in the works as I type this.. Another 3 table mix.. Anyway, while Unemployed I stayed awake for days.. Only because I had nothing better to do. I practiced.. Practiced more.. When I did sleep.. I would "Sleep Until I Wake" (disk 2 currently in the works).. It really messed my mind and myself up. I was totally lost.. Confused and unable to cope with the lack of direction in my life. I was going down hill, and was miserable with myself and everything around me. The only thing I had to keep me alive was.. The music and my 2 cats. In 2004 I refined what I was hearing, feeling and experiencing in my head. I wanted to take what I learned and how I felt over the last 12 months and lay it down into something I could present. Words could not explain how I felt.. but I thought maybe the music I was feeling could. The Music. The music is this chaotic thunderous wall of sound assaulting your senses with these thunderous bass lines bound to make wonder what the hell is going on. Hence my world in my own mind. No one will ever understand the mess that was me. The only glimpse you have is this mix. Its my first 3 table full on "bolt some shit down cause you'll most likely throw it" drum and bass mix. Complicated and yet thought out. I'm not about slapping something down recording it and just getting it out.. It has to always be perfect.. If I have to practice it a 1000 times, then fine.. Its the only thing I feel represents what's inside me. If I'm going to give a piece of me away then it has to be the best I can possibly make it. I play out live from time to time, but I am very selective in the events I play and the promoters I choose to work with. They all have to go in the same direction I am going in. Playing live is different then my mixed sets.. I never plan anything live, but I do go in with a though.. an idea.. You can change an idea.. But you can't change a plan. I play what I want when I play live.. these days its only drum and bass on 3 tables.. next month it could be all trancecore.. Its all about what I'm feeling. Sorry to ramble and take up your time. but I really hope you enjoy my mixes, my art, my dreams, my thoughts, and my ideas.. take sometime to download them as you might really enjoy them |
