(my french sucks, i don't know how to translate my last english sentence into french)
----

Enigma had to mortgage his parent housetwice to pay for his parties. Everyone wanted to throw raves, apprently no one wanted to learn the logistics of such endeveour. No one i knew went to such a "rave"... to get the massive crowd, and sales of tickets. Certain promoters had to resource to commercialized raves and the scene has a huge influx of "newbies".

You know, the ones all you candy kids love, the shirtless muscle guy and the high heel bimbo.

I was at that parteh... I don't remember much aside from the fact that I had my usual blast of a time....Enigma threw some dope events, it's a shame that he had to call it quits...I ran into him a couple of years ago whilst venue hunting, at the time he was actually the reception clerk for the DeMaurier Tennis center....he's a nice guy, but sometimes nice guys finish last...it is a shame though, and no thanks to likes of Crazy Eddy an friends...whateves, thats like ancient history at this point....

Ufot-never forgetting ur roots in MSPOT!~

you were scouting deMaurier tennis center for a venue? hehe ;)

bleh 1997. i was already jaded by then. how jaded?
Imagine duMaurir stadium packed, a 514 event. like 3 000+ people. this was the height of mega raves in Mtl. My friend tells me it was Bran Van 3000, David Morales, Daft Punk. I said it was Crystal Method. anyway, went in, stayed like 2 hours and left. Even if i had paid, i still woulda left.

My point is, there are so many parties lost in time, and those who've been there, don't remember much cuz they were high (Kimochi, Ufot, :b)or were jaded and didn't give a damn anymore (me).

Trey, the party you are referringto was called CREAM ( the first one ever ) and did feature one guy from DAFT PUNK spinning...well trying to anyway. Crystal Method was another event afterwards, unless I'm mistaken.

And I was at Back On Top too. But I don't remember a thing, unfortunately.

Strawberry Fields was fun too : waiting in line for hours, was the first guy in the line, until the cops came and the promoter was crying on his parents shoulders about that very same second mortgage he had his parents put on their house to throw that party.

Good times, I tell ya...

Ouch!

What a sucker.

But still... Going to that extent to throw a party is pretty hardcore. To bad there aren't more promoters and prodution companies like that.

Remember it was 1997. From '97-99, it was the time of mega raves and massive gatherings. A unknown promoter can easily throw a party and have enough people to break even or make a tidy profit. You can get like 600 people for a rave.

These newly arrived promoters thought throwing a rave was all about the numbers. They assumed bigger was better. They try to achieved the same status as the big promoters. The ones who would get corporate sponsors. At one party, my friends gave out a 200$+ Rewind Snow jacket for a lucky dude among 100s waiting in line for pre-sale tickets.

It was also a time of unscrupulous tactics, egos clashing, dirty dealings, and shady investors. Things better left under the rugs.

I was at that Cream(and it wasn't the first one, I think it was cream 2 but I'll check my Pass collection), and both members of Daft were there and spinning, I know cause I met them the day of durring setup (I worked that party even though I was working, I was having a "flippin'" good time) and they were ego-maniacs and though that they rulled the world...whateves.

Ufot-forgetting that punks are sometimes more daft then u think

My bad Ufot, I thought only Thomas Bangalter showed up. Goes to show how much of a difference being the two of them made ( read : none ). So yeah they were ego trippin' massively. Well, goes to show how much Montrealers miss them : they were never booked here again ( at least not to my knowledge ).

HAH !
