what the hell is (Elegant) Gothic Lolita?

in a nutshell, it is a fast growing subculture fashion clique coming out of Japan. it started about 5 years ago. Gothic Lolita is an amalgamation of Alice in Wonderland, Renaissance Goth, Red Riding Hood, french maid, fairies, and Victorian Era fashion.

more about it in this article.

is western, or north american youth subculture becoming static?

what do we have? emo-tards, candy kids, gravers; goth ravers, hip hop ho's, etc....Montreal is supposed to be a city of fashion.. is there anything new? if all the kids are mimicking past generation, why don't they put a twist to it?

do you really want an answer to that?
very well...

ask yourself if people dress how they feel that day, would they? why don't you see more business men
in sweats? if students are so late for their classes, why don't they save time by not dressing and go in their
pyjamas? it's your co worker funeral, but you feel especially bridal today, would you wear a wedding gown?

you can wear what you want, what you like, like what you like but in a society you will be categorized and labeled.
And no matter how hard you try, you will unknowingly lump people into a clique or another. Your friend is telling you
about a guy she's seeing, and you query her what does he do for a living? already you set predetermined categories
on that person.

People who do like what they like don't categorize themselves, it is others who set it upon them.
yes but why?

People categorized other people because it helps them differentiate. it helps us to understand other
human beings because we want to know and more importantly it helps us to be understood.

Human society has many cultures and each of these cultures have a set of "values", "norms", and "artifacts".
Values are what considered important in life. Norms is what that culture expects how one will behaved in
a given situation. Artifacts are material manifestations of these norms and values.

Within a culture there are many smaller ones and subcultures. Subculture distinct itself from the main
one by different style and behaviours. It itself can become mainstream. The style have many aspect to it:
language slang, manneurisms, etiquette, fashion, music, activities, etc... you belong to many categories
and classes. Attributes you're born with, gender, age, etc. and things you choose to do.

People tend to group themselves in a social gatherings. A person would rather enjoy the company of someone
who shared the same interests and experiences. Think of it of social management. how do you chose your friends?
do you really have the time to analyzed everyone of their merits and values to see if they meet your
standand for friendship?

Labeling, categorizing, predilections of a group of people of similar characteristics
helps the process of streamlining social interactions.

sociology, live with it

all those japenese kids with their cool fashion

they're all trying to fit in with the kids that don't fit in

its just fashion, a different cultures fashion

these kids are trying to rebel, they do it through their style and attitude

these kids are trying to break free of their older generations prudence and strict cultural background

they feel the need to freak out their older generations in the same sence that the hippies
in america did during the 60s

these people hang out in huge groups, all sitting and standing around to be seen

these kids are only trying to be distinct in their
uptight culture

hey...whats with asians and being hot
