| Coolness: 55415 | I'm looking for ACTRA, amateur, open-call, anything. I'm also looking for those who act for indy work. I have a few projects I want to start and I can't wait around for an agent or membership. The catch-22 rule that you need to be in a union to audition, but can't audition unless you're in a union is lame.
Canadian productions suck bad enough. Is there anything on the airwaves now besides Trailer Park Boys that isn't terribly produced/acted/written? |

 Coolness: 202240 | Yeah it really sucks that you have to be part of a Union .. if your not they will over look you. I might sign up for ACTRA. But yeah Im interested in acting, but I haven't really found any good places either.
I would love to find a resources on auditions too |

| Coolness: 55415 | yeah...that is saying the same thing twice! Let me try again: You need to be in the union to audition, but you need 3 union roles to get in the union. I think that's it. The standard thing to do is create your own project and create your own opportunity. If you bring a good head shot and CV and a supporting reel to an agent, they might take you on their roster and that's how you book your union roles to get full ACTRA status.
I'm looking to make some of that supporting reel stuff. |

 Coolness: 102890 | you can start at the bottom, that is become an extra, or a backround person. Look at for casting agency. Then you can see how it is on a shooting set. see if you like it.
I have no desire to become an actor, but i did some extra work cuz it is easy money (and it's fun). I was an regular extra for some teen tv show. Since this was a regular summer gig, i got to talk to the other extras, the teamsters, the assistant directors, the wardrobe girls. The days were long so i brought my sketchbook to past time on the set. One day, the stand-in was walking around with my sketchbook showing it to the actors without my knowledge or permission. Then later, i was drawing and some guy came up and said "that is a nice drawing"; it turned out to be the director and i got to be his storyboard artist for his directing debut for another show (Blue Murder). **** ....you can get an agent then go for auditions or you might be lucky and score a point (for ACTRA) cuz you just happen to be there and they needed someone to perform an action. Find some way to get on set, and start to network. |

Snake Eyes by Brian De Palma was shooting in Montreal. Me and my friend were among the hundreds of extras in the old Forum. there were also like 200 Actra members woking as backround people on the floor. So me and my friend were seated way on top talking about nothing or where to eat for lunch time, then a AD came up to my friend asking her what's her height and weight. The AD took her away. She became the stand-in for main actresss. They didn't like any of the girls who audition for the part and they picked her among the hundreds of people cuz the production really needed someone. What i'm saying is that people working in the bizz just somehow get into it just being there and be available. Being at the right place, at the right time. |

 Coolness: 63540 | Ì`m not in montreal, but I found that my university profs are a great resource, they`ve done a lot, and been a lot of places, and although I`m not with a union or an agency, I`ve been acted in shows the past two summers with a local theatre company, and it`s helped me to know a lot of people with great connections, you don`t necessarily need an agent to do what you want. Being available is super good advice, dedication, and motivation are two important factors in who makes it or not in the theatre business :) good luck |

| Coolness: 55415 | I'm up for anything. I'm going into actual withdrawl. I've got a shitload of credits under my belt, and auditioned really well for some big acting schools, but lately it's been all music for me.
I've checked out every agency in Montreal and most of them are dodgy as fuck and I wouldn't even leave a headshot behind. Most of them just seem to collect headshots and try to represent a few thousand talents (walk into Brown & Sasse on Guy and see litterally thousands of hopeful black and white eyes staring out from their wall...like cattle). My father is in ACTRA and SAG cuz he had a TV show on the Discovery network but he got his status in the union because he was a professional in another field who was given a program because of his expertise, so they had to get his unionized fast...doesn't help me in the long run.
