True dat... I once talked myself out of a jaywalking ticket... I gave them a big sob story about being late for class and that I had an exam, and I never woulda done it, and now that they`re talking to me I`m gonna be extra late and fail the semester and bla bla bla... they let me off... the cop was a chick... I dunno if the "young university guy barely scraping by" routine would`ve worked on a dude...

ah, be glad you guys live in the jaywalking capital (or so i've heard)
cops will give you a ticket for crossing the street if you cross when the hand starts flashing here.

yeah one thing though is motorists stop for you in other parts of canada, in Quebec your chances of getting hit are not much different whether the light is green or red

Montreal's drivers are notoriously aggressive and so are its pedestrians. When it comes to jaywalking, Montreal strides in solidarity with the best of the world's jaywalking capitals.

Reading something like that makes me so proud of my city.

yeah exactly what mico said.

read it, he says he saw 12 people in this really short time span jaywalk. also, it's just a known fact about montreal.

Stopping to observe the Montreal jaywalker in his or her natural habitat, I conducted an informal head count—one, two, three, four ... a dozen. In less than five minutes, I witnessed close to a hundred people crossing the street illegally.

go to paris...
not only there are at least as much jaywalking, but also many people do it without looking... sometimes a whole green light goes by while no car is able to cross because of people jaywalking in front of them

well yeah it is, montreal has to be the best (or worst) in everything. i've had friends get ticketed for drinking in a park, and they told me it sucks... just drink in your appartement, or in a bar.

now the problem is getting a ticket for pissing in public

Drinking in a bar is expensive and drinking in an apartment is boring. Some people don't have balconeys. Basically they are saying if you want to have a brew outside you either have to spent a shitload of money at a bar and stick to their terrace or you have to commit a crime.

Pretty funny they call Montreal a european city when in many places in europe you can drink on the bus or at the movie theatre or in any park or while walking down the street (and these are places with much better economies than the shithole we live in). I guesse I could always spend my time walking around town slashing tires than relaxing in a park with a good lager.
