SEN. LUGAR'S SON FACES MARIJUANA POSSESSION CHARGE
GREENFIELD, INDIANA Robert Lugar, the son of four-term U.S. Sen.
Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), was released on bond Thursday after being
arrested on a charge of marijuana possession, authorities said.
After spending the night in jail following a traffic stop, the younger
Lugar, 40, the town manager of nearby McCordsville, pleaded not guilty
to the drug charge and was released on a $200 bond, Hancock County
Sheriff Nick Gulling said.
A sheriff's deputy had stopped Lugar for expired plates Wednesday,
Gulling said.
The deputy said he smelled marijuana smoke. After receiving permission
to search, the deputy found about 11/4 ounces of marijuana beneath the
floor mat on the passenger side, Gulling said.
Lugar "denied the marijuana was his," he said.
