Miss Claire was corrupted by the sounds of electronica at an early age. After years of violin and bass guitar lessons came to an end--about age 15, Claire's taste began to shift toward music made with synthesizers and drum machines instead of traditional instruments. She immediately fell in love with the bleeps and beats of downtempo electronica, house and techno. Exposure to artists like Kruder & Dorfmeister, Amon Tobin, Richie Hawtin, and Misstress Barbara led to her diverse yet delectable taste which encompasses many different moods.
Dancing in the strobe lights at a rave in Halifax at 18, in an abandoned office building, Claire suddenly realized that it was just a matter of time before she must buy turntables and start buying massive amounts of wax. She bought decks soon after and in January 2001 played her first performance at Reflections Cabaret in Halifax. Isis was born. Since then she has played at a multitude of events in North America including the Evolve Festival [ www.evolvefestival.com ] SubTonic NYC, System Soundbar in T.O. and Edmonton's ongoing GOMP stompers. Her sound is very uniquely feminine, yet fierce. Bassy. Clean. Intense yet playful. Her passion lies with techno; its energy and rawness appeals to her, and its tracky, informal structure invites the dj to mix and play. Blending funky + drummy techno with minimal techno and hard-edged breakbeats, Isis creates a sound that is all her own. It has the energy of techno, but with added funk and unpredictability. Since her move to Vancouver, Claire has been devoting herself completely to the music she loves. Working at a used record shop, 'Vinyl,' has deepened her knowledge of electronic music of all varieties. Having access to vaults of limitless vinyl doesn't hurt either! At home she has been producing music with Ableton Live and her Korg Electribe. Expect to hear some original tracks, sounds, and samples in her sets in the near future. A website is in the works, in addition to a new mixed CD which will be available in June 2006. The future is now. Stay tuned!! |

Melon and I played with Isis at a party in New Brunswick.
She was a mesmerizing party rocker who moved effortlessly between banging styles. The crowd did not stop dancing when she played. Werd, I'm hype for her visit! |
