Trance is not techno.
Drum and bass is not techno.

| umm ya, i hate simple minded idiots like Scott Philip who think that THEY ALONE determine what the definition of a word is. sorry buds, the english lexicon is a constantly morphing organism that responds equally to idiots and geniuses alike, whenever they ascribe meaning to a particular utterance in communication with other humans. you are a fucking elitist dumbass and should be shot. in the face.
technotronic IS techno. to some people. just cause you disagree with them doesn't make you right. in fact, by hating them, you are less than them, YOU are the problem. therefore, i hate you. by doing so, i am helping to solve this dilemma and bring the words, their definitions, and the whole body of language, back into the hands of the common people. long live the proletariat. die fascist laptop nerds. |

| Weren't Technotronic a Belgian newbeat act that got commercial spins on this side of the pond when they slapped vocals by Ya Kid K over one of their cuts? The instrumentals might have been interesting... but... can't deal with those vocals. They make my dick go limp about as fast as hearing Neneh Cherry fronting on top of Tim Simenon's beats... Bomb The Bass was the shit... if you've ever heard You See Me In 3-D, then you already know this.
I, personally have no problems with people calling shit techno. Go ahead. Knock yourselves out. I do, however, think it's some wack ass bullshit to hear a bunch of pacifier-suckin', blanket-totin' pillheads mumbling a bunch of nonsense about how 'hardcore' freeform trance is... everyone seems to like sayin' they're hardcore, but most of 'em cry like babies when the real shit comes out...
Bunch of fuckin' pansies, I say. |

| Electronica was something I remember seeing on compilation CDs from 1995-1998, and it usually meant stuff like Orbital, Meat Beat Manifesto, Empirion, Junkie XL, The Prodigy, Underworld, as well as Plastikman and Aphex Twin, anything that got through to the mainstream from the underground. It seems to me that it loosely referred to any sort of new styles of electronic music at the time and was an effort to pigeonhole. I remember working the Electronica department at HMV and getting quizzed on a bunch of groups I didn't find all that relevant before getting the position. It's a marketing word for sure. I wouldn't say it's MTV, but more an industry term. Still makes me cringe. |
