DRUG SURRENDEREE IS 27TH EXECUTED

SURRENDERING to police is not a guarantee a drug pusher would not be killed by
suspected vigilantes, a self-confessed drug pusher found out too late as he was
shot dead by an unidentified gunman at Zone 2, Km. 11, Sasa, Davao City, past
midnight Sunday.

Angelito Arellano alias Boni, 22, of Bayview, Km. 11, Sasa this city was the
27th victim of summary execution since June 16.

Arellano succumbed to two gunshot wounds on his right leg and left chest.

Initial investigation conducted by PO3 Alfredo Heliane of the Sasa police
station showed that the victim was shot several times around 12:30 a.m. on the
stairway of Bernardito Abing's residence.

"Mura'g gigukod siguro na kay nagdagan man unya nangayo'g tabang (The victim
probably was being chased, because he was running and asking for help),"
Heliane said.

Despite several gunshot wounds, the victim was able to climb the stairs but
fell before he could enter the house.

Police immediately arrived at the crime scene and brought the victim to Davao
Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

The suspect, who was described to be in a red sleeveless shirt, fled towards
Zone 1 also at Km. 11 right after.

"DDS siguro gihapon na kay drug surrenderee man nang gipatay (It must still be
the handiwork of the Davao Death Squad because the victim is a drug
surrenderee)," said one Sasa resident who requested anonymity.

But, Heliane said there is a possibility that Arellano was killed by his
cohorts in the illegal drug trade because of the information he disclosed to
authorities when he surrendered sometime in July.

"It could be theorized that victim was shot by his angry companions in their
illegal trade after he surrendered to the authorities," Heliane said.

Arellano was among the first batch of surrenderees at the Sasa police station.

According to Chief Insp. Leonardo Felonia, Sasa police chief, Arellano
regularly reports to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) office after
his surrender but doubts that he ceased his drug trade activities.

Duterte earlier reminded the drug surrenderees that if they would return to
their illegal activities, the support and assistance given to them by the city
would only serve as alms if they are killed.

"Kung mobalik lang gihapon mo, kadtong allowance nga gihatag nako ninyo, abuloy
ko na lang yon sa inyo (If you go back to your illegal activities then the
allowance I'm giving you will just be my contribution for your burial),"
Duterte said.
