CAUSE OF DOG'S DEATH SHOULD BE KNOWN SOON

It will be approximately one week before officials at the University
of Guelph veterinary clinic determine what killed a dog repeatedly
stunned by police taser weapons Thursday.

A post-mortem will be conducted on the large rottweiler, which died at
the clinic.

The dog was zapped with the electrical weapons to allow officials with
the Guelph Humane Society to get it into a cage. It was transferred to
the clinic but died before being seen by a vet.

Police arrested two men on Willow Road about 11 a.m. in connection
with a marijuana growing operation discovered by police several days
earlier on Imperial Road. On Aug. 23 police executing a search warrant
found $15,000 worth of growing equipment and 21 marijuana plant.

Three men were earlier arrested in connection with that investigation.
On Thursday, police arrested two more men in the parking lot of a
Willow Road apartment building.

The men had the rottweiler with them. The dog was tied to a steel
pole, but was lunging and growling at people. When humane society
staff approached the dog, it broke free of its harness. Police
officers shot it with their taser stun guns, but the dog fled.

The animal was located in the Westmount Road area and police again
used the tasers, but it got away again. The dog was ultimately found
in the backyard of a home on Speedvale Avenue.

Police used the tasers again and the dog was incapacitated long enough
to put it in a cage.

The men arrested on Willow Road, Hoan Duc Nguyen, 23, and Thi Huong
Le, 22, are each charged with producing a controlled substance and
conspiracy to produce a controlled substance.
