PIZZA GIGI PUMPING OUT PIES DESPITE DRUG CHARGES

Pizza Gigi is back in business after police allegedly found over $1
million in drugs in the restaurant.

"It's the best slice in town," said U of T student Jacob Dubelaar,
passing a sign in the window of the pizza joint saying that it
reopened Wednesday after an almost three week layoff following a
police raid.

Pizza Gigi closed amid allegations that the owner sold drugs from the
restaurant.

Police allegedly found about $1 million worth of marijuana, and
quantities of Oxycocet, Oxycontin, Ecstasy and about half an ounce of
crack in the Harbord St. shop near Bathurst St. on Valentine's Day.

Salvatore "Sammy" Crimi, 57, faces 15 drug-related
charges.

"We were renovating," said Crimi's wife, Rosa, who helps run the pizza
shop.

"We would have closed the next day regardless of what happened," she
said, after her husband declined to be interviewed.

The renovations include new walls, ceiling, doors, tables, and
paint.

Wednesday Crimi called his most loyal customers to let them know that
the pizzas were coming out of the oven again.

Since then, people have been coming in to congratulate him on the
reopening, leave flowers and cards, and of course order a slice of
pie.

But not everyone is pleased Gigi is back in business before the
charges are dealt with.

"You'll find a lot of people not happy about it reopening around
here," said a resident from around the corner on Lippincott St.

"I hoped that something else was going to go in its place," she said,
asking to remain anonymous because she said she feels
intimidated.
