VALLEY RCMP PITCHING IN ON POT CRACKDOWN

The Comox Valley RCMP is currently involved in an annual marijuana
eradication program, along with the Victoria Police Department and
Saanich Police.

The Canadian Forces is also lending hand by transporting the
integrated police unit by helicopter to access remote grow-op sites.

Ground units will also be hunting for grow-op sites across the Island.

Although police routinely search for and eradicate grow-ops all year
round, summer is a particularly busy time for police, as outdoor
plants reach maturity. The size of the illegal operations varies,
ranging from 200 plants to 900, although on Aug. 4, Comox Valley RCMP
found and destroyed 1,032 plants in Fanny Bay.

"It's harvest season for Vancouver Island police," said Comox Valley
RCMP spokeswoman Cst. Tammy Douglas.
