BODY FOUND IN JUAREZ IDENTIFIED AS EX-DRUG KINGPIN'S SON

Chihuahua state authorities Wednesday identified a man who was found
dead in a Juarez street drain as the son of former drug lord Gilberto
"Grenas" Ontiveros Lucero.

The body of Gilberto Ontiveros Mejia, 39, was discovered Oct. 8, but
officials were able to identify him only recently because his body was
dismembered.

Authorities provided no further details about his death.

The father, Ontiveros Lucero, 57, a flamboyant drug capo, was released
from a Mexican prison in 2007 after serving a 15-year sentence on drug
charges. He was known for keeping a tiger not only at his home but
also at the Juarez Cereso, where he was jailed until his weekend
passes to local nightclubs were exposed.

Since his release from prison, Ontiveros Lucero has been involved in a
legal dispute with Chihuahua state authorities over the state's
alleged expropriation of properties he claims were taken from him
without proper compensation.

One of the properties in dispute is the Hospital de la Mujer on
Avenida Paseo Triunfo de la Republica, which Ontiveros Lucero and a
partner planned to open as the Caesar's Palace hotel.

During the 1980s, Ontiveros Lucero's bodyguards were accused of
kidnapping and torturing a former El Paso Herald-Post freelance
photographer who attempted to photograph the building.

The Drug Enforcement Administration in El Paso still has a warrant out
for the arrest of Ontiveros Lucero on federal drug charges.

Authorities also identified four other murder victims who were killed
in the past week, and whose bodies were dumped at Juarez street
intersections: Mario Fuentes Garcia, 30, and Alfredo Flores Lazalde,
24, both Nov. 9 at Avenida Jilotepec and Pina; Harold Gabriel Guzman
Frayre, 30, found Nov. 9 at Paseo Triunfo de la Republica and Plutarco
Elias Calles; and Bruck Enriquez Martinez, 29, a citizen of Nicaragua,
found Nov. 5 at Plutarco Elias Calles and Damaso.
