HERE'S HOW TO STOP DRUG CARTELS

Re "Opium corruption widens" (Page A1, May 10): First, I want to give
a huge shout-out to Tom Lasseter for some courageous reporting. He
literally risked his life to bring us this important story. Thank
you, Tom. If there were other reporters involved, kudos to them, too.
This is the kind of journalism you can't get in the blogosphere or on
talk radio.

If our government is supporting opium farming and heroin production,
we ought to know. It sure seems like we are. Now, what to do about it?

What about a little good old-fashioned American capitalist solution?
Legalize cannabis, grow it here, and put these thieving, bloodthirsty
people - and their friends in the Mexican drug cartels - out of business.
