Legalising 'pot' a dangerous move

Sir, I completely agree with your editorial that cannabis shouldn't be
legalised because it leads to the use of harder, more dangerous drugs. Two
years ago, I was a student and knew several people who used cannabis; they
all moved on to try LSD, amphatemines, ecstasy and cocaine.

I used to smoke cannabis and thought nothing of it. I thought that the case
against it was greatly overhyped and that it was no worse than having a few
drinks.

But cannabis, especially in higher doses, is an intriguing drug whose
effects can be not unlike those of LSD.

Such was my curiousity when experiencing these effects that I began to
disregard the dangers of LSD. With many of my cannabis smoking friends, I
decided to try it.

I took LSD, amphatemines, ecstasy and cannabis fairly regularly and didn't
try cocaine only because I couldn't afford it. As a direct result, I
developed a longterm mental illness. psychotic depression, which meant I
had to take a year out of university.

Many people will use cannabis, legal or not, but the use of a psychoactive
drug should never be allowed to become the norm in society.
