COLO. CAMPAIGN FINANCE INFO TAMPERED WITH

DENVER - Campaign financial information posted on the Internet for a group
opposed to legalizing medical marijuana was tampered with to show the money
went for such things as "bribes and Nazi Party membership."

Bill Hobbs, deputy secretary of state, said the office is investigating who
in his office was responsible for listing expenditures by the Coloradans
Against Legal Marijuana.

"What we know at this time is that it looks like it was an internal data
entry from an operator within our office," Hobbs said Monday.

For example, the entry for a $250 payment to the Colorado Republican Party
was changed to read "bribe." It actually was a payment for a booth rental
at the state party convention.

The entries were corrected within minutes of being brought to the office's
attention.

"It was definitely not hacked into over the Internet," Hobbs said. "We will
probably be getting involved in some sort of legal proceeding over this."

Colorado voters will decide on Nov. 7 whether seriously ill people should
be allowed to use marijuana with a doctor's permission.
