i just had some stranger give me his business card today on the street saying anything i wanted (in the lines of "chronic, pills, white") call him.. and the funny thing is ... the business card has "do not cut" written over and over again around the border... and in fact it IS the perfect filter material. :/ :P

this harmonic mixing is interesting and imma gonna check it out.....

that platinum notes thing they make looks useful tooo... takes all your tracks and batch normalizes them (supposedly eliminating clips and reducing distortion on the way).
i see that they use iZotope tech... so i wonder if the izotope RX can do the same thing? apparently it can fill in gaps in audio with resynthesis... funky.. i wonder how that sounds? maybe take mp3s (which are psychoacoustically gapped for the lossy compression) and resynthesize them into wavs with this to fill em back? :/ :D

i don't know the name of the place off hand, but if are coming down st.denis and turn left on [ st.ca ] then it is on the right hand side of the street and only a few blocks up. :I and it looks mostly like a used book store with real high ceilings, like a warehouse. upstairs is a lot of bad records, the milkcrates are on the ground floor though. i will walk there soon and report back with more specific details. ;)

yeah, i need the pots for highpass and lowpass cutoff for an ms-20. (100k-b linear pots i think) also i have a jupiter-6, the battery died and now the eeprom is corrupt :( so either i have to find someone with an eeprom burner or pay $$$ and get the europa mod. (also have more fucked up gear, but those are the top priorities~!) :D

the guys at moog are weird. they sometimes put out vintage gear and then if you ask "how much" they admit that it's Kano's and its just out there as a tease.. hahah

Hi,

If anyone wants to sell a used traktor scratch + audio8dj soundcard.. i will give you 400$ if you have deactivated the software of course. :)

also i am always looking for vintage gear... especially tr-808, tb-303, arp odyssey, minimoog model D. i will pay fair market value for ones in good condition.

and also while i'm at it.. does anyone know where i could find a nice used 24 channel analog console around here?

THANK YOU!!!!

if we're making music. we should always be open to learn more. whether it be a step sequencer person learning how to drop beats "in the pocket" without hours of frustrating nudging. the reality is you often won't get the same thing sitting back and _listening_ as you do feeling it. the cerebellum -> muscles -> instrument -> compressed air waves will usually translate well to compressed air waves -> cerebellum -> musclar motion (i.e. dancing) but on the other hand, you get stuff sitting back and listening (cerebrum work) on a step sequencer/arpeggiator that you would NEVER come up with playing as well.. so you've got to use the crunchy and the smoothy to get the best balance ultimately.

same goes with theory. we should all learn more of it. but as your learning, you find out that the diatonic scale (black and white notes) that we also use in step sequencers by the way... are set at frequencies that are not theoretically(mathematically) ideal because they were set for common tuning amongst orchestral instruments.. not to mention that there are a lot of useful frequencies IN BETWEEN the semitones... microtones. and Indian classical music for one example uses complex microtonal scales ("Ragas") Western classical theory was designed for harmonies, Indian classical for melodies, and other types of music like Ewe (from Ghana) drumming is rhythmically very complex (polyrhythms galore)

so its always important not to get stuck in your box of how to see things with music, whether you are "traditionally trained" classical guitarist or a script kiddie "producer" using frooty loops who thinks that he doesn't need a minimoog because he thinks the arturia VSTi clone sounds exactly the same (even though he's never REALLY used a minimoog)

sorry to continue this diversion.. no one asked the original poster : "what kind of music are you interested in making with said controller ? " i think they've been scared away :(

just to ask a question... you say it's LEGAL to play loud music during the day. and I know that in Ontario, that is indeed the case up until 11pm in residentially zoned areas. however, upon looking at tenant rights and stuff in Montreal, apparently tenants can complain about the noise you make EVEN during the day!! and you can ultimately get evicted for it! so it seems that there is no legal right to make loud music in Quebec at all if someone wants to complain . :( i hope i am wrong about this , but this is the clear impression that i get from looking at government websites. So that would make soundproofing a total necessity for me!
by the way it is not just the bass compensation and ear fatigue issues that plague headphone mixing.. but it will KILL your ears faster than anything else (other than excessive clubbing!) i now find that i am basically allergic to headphones now (makes my tinnitus come up), which really sucks.. but please take it as a warning to all music lovers that your ears are your most important asset and don't damage them!!!!! get musicians earplugs (er-15s or er-30s) that do a flat frequency response drop of 15 - 20dB when u go to clubs... they work great, the music sounds better and more clear even! any music where the bass is loud enough to FEEL in your body is loud enough to do permanent damage to the little hairs in your cochlea... so earplugs are like condoms... don't go without them!!

ok.. sorry i can't help u i can't figure out how iLogic worx. but i've been using Cubase for 10 years and it is the DON ! u can timestretch audio in realtime, and make it faster/slower while preserving the pitch/key its in. i'm quite certain that logic can do it too, it is a matter of RTFM i'm afraid. i know that for most men, reading the manual means their balls retracting up into their pelvis, just like asking for directions... but sometimes sacrifices have to be made :/

i don't think its worth getting, all the features u want to use it for are better implemented straight into programs like cubase sx. i.e. timestretching (which is what u want for accapellas) and beat slicing (which only works well for breaks really) i'm pretty sure that logic does this too. try and find logic express 7 [k] ;) or cubase sx ... damn software is hard to find for mac ...
