MIDI music and an animated GIF as a background image.

I don't think the site is the problem. Maybe a mobile version wouldn't hurt, like, a mobile CSS template ... something like 4chan has and a few minor PHP/ImageMagick tricks.

Also the site is pretty damn local and has been for as long as I can remember. Toronto probably has their own version of Ravewave, etc. Maybe restructuring the site more into something like a corporate website or a blog-based site, with News, Forums, Events, Music, etc. instead of MySpace, which is essentially dead.

I know it sucks to scrap all that code that makes pretty profile pages full of MIDI music and GIF backdrops, but such is life.

Other than that, there needs to be more event promotion. I know the community got burnt, got edgy, super protective, but it's really become too much. There are better ways, I think.

I think Montreal is thawing the arts thing. Technocracy pretty much failed and it's not going super well, so I think there's a nice opportunity here.

Dear Sir;
Madam,

I am a Nigerian prince, currently in exile due to political turmoil in my country, and I am in dire need of your help.

Your minor contribution of $20.00 could indeed help me fund mining operations at a site, here, in Congo, where geological surveys have shown the presence of platinum and diamonds, and I am ready to offer you 100% return on your investment following successful extraction.

I thank you warmly for your time, and your consideration, and I hope to further our business relationship and commitment.

Sincerely,

At first it definitely wasn't the intent. It was just awesome, and a lot of people wanted to witness this awesomeness, which made it attractive to venture capitalists.

If rave culture can come up with holographic projectors that run off 3-phase electric current and only project Princess Leia in 20 m by 5 m, then it might, in fact be "reborn". It might "die", or it might "pulse" into something else, in the hippie-disco-funk-electro-techno-dance-trance-dubstep continuum.

Most of these cultures were drug-centric, though, and drugs aren't exactly as trendy as they once were.

Mind you, one may see here the opportunity for the ultimate revival.

If I remember history class properly, Rave emerged from disco and the event of the technological era, at the end of the 80s. Technology has since been well-implemented, most everyone has a technological device of some sort.

Techno music attracted people who were interested by this emergence, and as technology became more mainstream, people began losing interest. Technology is no longer a novelty.

Rave was also an antagonist to hippie culture. Hippie culture proned polyamory, in contradiction to their parents' religious and conservative ideologies. During the 80s, this led to a dissociation of love and sex, if you will.

Today, overpopulation is becoming a growing concern for a lot of people, so love and sex are not really popular right now, and rave culture has become a refuge for a lot of people, and has become more of a secret society than a culture. It is today perhaps what disco was in the mid-80s, mostly small, private parties, mostly attended by people already part of a tightly-knit group.

It's not dead, its origins are just not novel anymore. It's just unpopular. Laser shows and techno music don't impress nobody anymore, but was that really ever the intent?

I'll start.

These are some of my best or most interesting. If you want to see the album: [ plus.google.com ]

One of my most recent and most complex attempts and assemblies. A compound cookie base, dipped in liquid sugar, with chocolate cake, chocolate "custard", and icing, in Kellog's Froot Loops with almond milk. All vegan, all made with real chocolate.

Eggs in donuts. Donuts from IGA. If you want to try, go ahead.

First time with torula yeast, put it in mashed potatoes.

Water + red lentils + sodium bicarbonate = porridge
Porridge + tomato paste + oil + spinach = sauce

Strawberries, chocolate, almond milk, and sugar.

Vegan poutine!

Some bread.

First time making something edible with tofu. Fried the strips in some oil, salt and garlic before putting them on tomato pasta. These are just some reduced canned tomatoes with oil, and fettuccine, I think.

Holy shit.

Red rice and beans, fried plantain, and some tomato/onion sauce.

Sangria?

Falafel from mix, own flatbread, store-bought veggies and dressing.

First time with Daiya "cheese". Beware: it grows in the oven.

Apple pie. Own crust. Ceylon cinnamon.

Failed attempt at puff pastry, ended up flaky. The filling is potato, carrot, onion, veal, salt, oil, parsley and thyme.

My normal feed. Rice and lentils.

Rather authentic bolognese sauce I made with the rest of the veal before it went bad.

Cheese pizza.

Some buns. Oat burger, and flax-chia-whole wheat hot-dog.

There's a kind of hot-dog known as a "ripper", a deep-fried wiener cracks, but only with natural casings, it seems.

A fucking horse burger in oat bun, topped with a primitive Duxelles.

Bawshton Creeam Piae - Ancestor of the chocolate-glazed custard donut.

And that's all for now, folks.

I firmly believe that my boyfriend should take out the trash while I do the dishes.

As far as money goes, it's never been an issue before. I don't know how it could go. I can see it being 50/50 on common expenses, or 50/50 split of remaining combined.

If it's a boyfriend, boyfriend, then definitely 50/50 of remaining combined, probably with an agreed percentage going into savings or something. Actually, this was going to be an issue with my last boyfriend, and I was going to do something like that.

50/50 on expenses, I was going to match whatever surplus he was going to have, and put the rest in a savings account. I was clearing 2K/month then, and he was a "student".

As far as chores are concerned, I just wouldn't trust my boyfriend to do the washroom to my standards, and my boyfriend really shouldn't want me to bring bags to the curb late at night.

Fuck I miss him.

I'm not sure what I meant at that point. Ive just been really mad at Quebec since I found out that one of the reasons I never had any friends in school was because I was forced to go to French school, except for the last few years. Since I understood that French people who talk to me could as well be talking to a wall, and that everything I said to them came from a different personality, I found myself in a foreign country, where they speak a different language, and I realized I didn't really want to be here, but that I didn't necessarily want to tear my roots again. I don't survive transplantation very well.

I was also expressing the fact that, while they're not super well implemented, Quebec values and social objectives aren't bad in themselves. Quebec is often very socialist, from their French brothers, and it's overall a very caring, loving society, despite their protectionist measures and automatic defense systems against assimilation by the capitalist anglophones who surround them. When I said they deserved to be hated, I meant that it was important that they don't forget that they're against big odds, and trying to prosper in adversity. Something like that, anyway.

As I try to make friends off the Internet where I grew up, because I am a runt in my families, and gay, so I could find friends and people to relate to more easily that way, I actually find it hard to find people who will outright be negative. Most people seem to like to pretend that everything's cool and everything's peachy, put on a face, so to speak, they'll smile at you, be super nice, and then go talk shit in your back, poison your food and tamper with your cosmetics.

I don't know if it's always been the case, and I was just too socially inept to notice, or if there is in fact a hate culture, maybe a counterculture to ours, maybe from overpopulation concerns, where it's cool to strike people down, and post-war and post-recession behavior, where people are in a rush to get over their hardships, ready to run over everyone like they're trying to get the newest Harry Potter book before everyone.

But yeah, it's become really hard for me to find a spot where I feel comfortable anymore. I had a boyfriend a bit before the holidays, maybe you guys know him, and he just really destabilized me. Even then, though, I don't really want to be with people who are always positive about everything. Everything has a good and a bad side, and I don't want to see Kevin as someone who burnt me and pushed me towards the people who're always "whee, everything's great!". No, not everything is great, there is a lot of stuff that's wrong, it needs to be talked about. But hate and passive aggressiveness and aggressiveness won't solve anything.

I think I understand what you're saying though, they do that to set-up a shell around them, and I guess I'm the same way to some extent. I can be a bit snappy, myself. I think I'll have to watch out for that.

You're also right. I do need better influences, but I'm not sure where to find them anymore.

I think dubstep is the darling child of rave culture and electronic music. A bit like the United States are to England :3

Fact is, the chances of me being able to attend a hard tech/hhc/acid trance/hard trance/freeform/jungle party in the near future are slim. Unless I move, which is unlikely. Because India is India, and because French is annoying. Also I don't want to get to know another city.

IMO places where you live are like boyfriends. The fewer, the better.

Yeah, no. Like actual dubstep sets or, at least, sets where dubstep isn't used as an interlude between Rihanna and Rihanna.

There has to be nice places where I can dance, enjoy the music and meet some guy. I can't always be waiting for someone to make his way to the Village.

I really have to learn to trust my intuition. I've been around here for like, 10 years or something, and the music is still too slow, the guys still aren't my type, and it's still full of weird, old, disgusting, predatory, insane men.

SAVE ME PLEASE! I just can't stand it anymore and parties are too scarce.
