special guests info:

Kids On TV emerged from the drainage pipe of a Toronto bathhouse in the spring of 2003. The group consists of John Caffery (Bass), Minus Smile (Beatmaster), Wolf (Guitar), and Roxanne Luchak (Video). Their output includes, but is by no means limited to, musical recordings, musical performances, film, dance videos, rock opera collaborations, graffiti, crafting, and live "sleep-ins" in ritzy Toronto bars. Kids On TV want to transform space and your mind. Tune in. Get addicted. Get nasty. Kids On TV bring it live and bring it real with big dirty beats, shameless samples and breakdance meat.

“Kids on TV started when Mike e.b. and I were doing burlesque at places like Buddies in Bad Times theatre,” says head kid John Caffrey. “We were trying to change what burlesque was and how it was perceived, and to mess around with what was appropriate for different spaces. We began to create music for our own performances and that sparked something, that’s where we took it.”

“I wouldn’t say burlesque is the only inspiration on Kids on TV; it was what we were doing at the time so we took something from that,” says Caffrey. “Musically, a band like Les Georges Leningrad blows me away. We like Kraftwerk, Talking Heads, Fifth Column—bands that tell stories and have a performance aspect.”

"They're kamikaze queer pop - Jimmy Sommerville meets the Beastie Boys" - Boy George

Dandi Wind started in 2003 as well as a way to meld their love of theatre/performance with challenging but not inaccessible music. Their songs are about honest incidents that surround us. "Since we live in the downtown eastside of Vancouver (the most depressed slum in Canada; the most junkies per capita in North America) our songs are sometimes grim… I live next to the train tracks and the rendering plant where they turn dead pets into glue while pumping cancerous smoke and industrial noise into my mind all day."

Dandi Wind is the work of two very dedicated pioneers, who are bending the rules and embracing not only music, but art as well. Thick synthesized beats sit atop even more artificial instrumentation that is fitted to a rough vocal delivery that makes your hips shake. Instantly, Dandi Wind wants to persuade you to dance, they want you to get off your ass and move: not just hear the music, but feel it and see it. Dandi Wind blends music and performance art into one beautiful listening experience.
