If you like NIN.. the logical next step would be skinny puppy, who is one of my favorite groups... Some of their stuff is more rock than others.. my favorite album of theirs is "too dark park"... Skinny puppy I believe was one of the inspirations for trent, although it is much more experimental and unpredictable than his music...

Ministry was also a big inspiration for trent, their stuff is much more on the rock side and a lot of it is more heavy metal than industrial, but if you like NIN you will probably dig a lot of their stuff...

KMFDM was a popular industrial-rock style group from Germany in the 90's, their music would deffinately appeal to someone who was into NIN...

All these groups were pretty popular and well known... I am not as familiar with the more underground stuff...

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult is a great way to go. The first time Marilyn Manson saw them live they scared him and he was terrified of what their music sounded like.

KMFDM!?! No one should promote those Kraut clowns! Utter garbage if you ask me.

I'll second Skinny Puppy all the way... you might find them "weird" at first, because their song structures are quite unconventional, and Ogre is an aquired taste. The first album I bought was VIVIsectVI, haven't looked back since. In fact I sold all my NIN shortly after! Ogre and Key have a new album coming out very soon, it should be awesome.
Ogre's project with Mark Walk, ohGr, is neat too. Accessible, catchy, but still demented.

Ministry is good, but nothing to go crazy about. The Land of Rape and Honey is their best, followed by The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste (which spawned the sound Trent was after for Broken) - after that one they went 100% rock.

I don't think the stuff you're looking for should be called industrial at all - but I won't get into this debate now. I simply wouldn't recommend looking for NIN-ripoff bands (Stabbing Westward et al.) - they were mostly commissioned by label executives back when NIN was huge, and now they're all forgotten about.

Am I really the only person that still likes Stabbing Westward?

Nitzer Ebb is EBM... electro body music, like Front 242, The Klinik (awesome by the way), Frontline Assembly, etc...

By "industrial rock" we exclusively mean stuff like Revolting Cocks, Ministry, or NIN, i.e. rock (with actual guitars) that has a more or less pronounced electronic edge. It shouldn't really be a genre, because all the bands that tried copying this sound failed miserably (other gay example: Gravity Kills!)

Skinny Puppy are in a world of their own... The way I'd categorize them (which I hate to do) is halfway between EBM and oldschool industrial (like SPK and Throbbing Gristle).
There were a few songs with punk/metal-ish guitars (Tin Omen), but never to the point where it didn't sound like electronic music anymore.
