Treehouse so far is the best I've had. Wisushi is 2nd best on my list, they've only got one in the west island and one in laval. Fou D'asie is pretty good, makes good stuff and not just sushi either.

It'd be fun to go on a sushi crawl for a week.
Just check out all the different sushi joints in montreal.

budget permitting.

Treehouse is mad-expensive. One day I will go in there and order the beluga caviar, but I cant afford that at the moment.. :)

If your ever up for a trip into the waste island, we can hit Wisushi. Good prices and the quality is as good as Treehouse.

Where in the Waste Island is Wisushi? I might check it out. And I think there's a few people who'd probably be up for a sushi get together (hah, those with jobs!)

... of course, you could always cook your own sushi. Make the get together a little more interactive ;)

oh, if you don't mind being banned from the Treehouse forever - you can always order the beluga caviar and bail on the bill!

I like that ;)

That database *owns*.
Checking every one of those restoraunts out would be an adventure in taste. Thanks, much appreciated.

now it's just a matter of figuring out the price range for these places.

Not VIP, that's at uhmmm... fuck... I don't remember the name of that restauraunt. It's the fancy place, I think corner of St Denis and Duluth... L'Academie. If the Maitre D, Serge, still works there, I can walk in with as many people as I want, cut in front of a 2 hour around-the-block line, and get a table in under 5 minutes along with free wine and entrees for having "forgotten" that I had a reservation at that time and not having my table set up.

Hell, even Nimi saw a few weeks ago when we went on Chabanel.. I walk in, I don't pay when I walk out. And at Deux Marie, with Scott and I think it was Paul... I can order stuff that isn't on the menu...

It's good to be the king. :)

that's f'ken awesome.

I need to make a few friends in the culinary world and cash in on some of this VIP treatment. It sounds like a nice set up. Next thing you'll be talking about getting free meals at the Globe and hobnobbing with all those hollywood celebrities who eat there.

Damn you and your kingly ways!

don't just brag, share your secrets :p

My "secret" is that my dad has always taken me everywhere he goes, and he has expensive taste. He also talks to everyone and becomes friends with everyone, so they treat me the same way they treat him. Hell, I regularly get e-mails from CBC's old costume designer, Peter DeCastel. Super-nice guy. I've gone to "small" dinners that he's thrown where the cheapest food was the truffles for an entre and spent the whole time talking with the presidents of CBC and Peter about fantasy-related stuff, specifically things related to dragons, because they both love dragons.

Go to places. Talk to people. Ask the waiter/waitress what they would recomend if you like a certain item on their menu and why they recomend it. It sneaks up a level of intimacy and pretty soon you walk in and they greet you and give you freebies because your a great customer and your friendly. Tip generously, also. A little more than normal, ALL the time to whatever waiter/waitress your trying to befriend. They'll remember the person who gave them a good tip and they'll give you a better service and will be more than happy to recomend their favorite dishes/drinks/etc because if you like it, you'll remember who told them about it and chances are they'll be happy with a slightly above average tip.

And read up on whatever it is your eating/drinking/whatever. If it's sushi, know your sushi inside out so you can talk with the waiter about the diffrent kinds of tastes you like. Same with coffee. Find out which one you like and read up on how it's done, what characteristics it has. Is it bitter or smooth? Does it leave a bitter or smooth after-taste, or no after-taste at all? Know your cullinary terms and you'll get far in the way of talking to waiters/waitresses and getting to know them and getting better food and better service.
